Wind energy close to powering up in Kimball

Citizens may soon notice turbines running one at a time

Tuesday, March 13, John Brown, Chief Development Officer of Kimball Wind Energy was on the agenda to present and review a slide presentation of the Kimball Wind Energy Project, however, Brown was unable to attend.

Brown sent an email containing dates and important information to Cathy Sibal, Kimball County Clerk, stating all major construction has been completed, meaning county residents will notice the gradual departure and demobilization of construction crews over the coming weeks. Also the "Tap" which connects the wind farm substation to the City of Kimball 115 kVA line was set to be completed last Wednesday the 14th, as some of the city noticed loss of power for brief times throughout the day.

This week, the week of March 12, the wind farm substation will be energized, followed by the collector system (the wires that connect all the wind turbines to the substation.)

During the week of March 19, Brown plans to start commissioning the individual wind turbines so county residents may notice one unit running at a time.

The letter also states that during the first week of April, Brown anticipates receiving permission from WAPA and MEAN to run up to all 12 units.

As of right now, Brown states that the project is still on tract to reach full commercial operation on June 30.

Refurbishment of roads, disturbed lands and more will occur over the coming months as weather and ground conditions permit.

Stay tuned for more information about the Kimball Wind Energy Program in the upcoming weeks.
