    Following the equalization of Kimball County properties during the reappraisal process that began late last year, a total of 42 protests were filed with the Board of Equalization. Protests began on Monday, July 10 and continued throughout Thursday, July 13. In addition to the board, Kimball County Assessor Sherry Winstrom and Josh Gamis, representative of Stanard Appraisal Services, heard the protests.     After more than a decade, Kimball County Fair will have an open class for adults and youth who are not in 4-H but wish to show sewing, crafts and more. Open class exhibits can include needlework such as knitting, crochet and hand or machine embroidery or tatting, quilts and sewing anything from placemats to clothing. Crafts entered into the open class can be wood working, painting, paper crafts or porcelain/ceramics and photography, in both color or black and white, is accepted as well.     The Kimball Junior Golf Program has been busy attending Panhandle Junior Golf Tour events. At Torrington in the boy’s 10-12 grade division, Tristen Zitek emerged the winner with his round of 69 with Dillon Wise second with 71 as both shot under par with some great golf played.   • Saturday accident claims the life of local woman

    Erin Aerni, 33, of Kimball was killed in an accident on Highway 30 in Kimball Saturday morning. According to Nebraska State Patrol, the accident occurred at about 9:40 a.m. a half mile west of Kimball when Aerni was running westbound on the highway. At some point she ran from the shoulder onto the road and was struck by a westbound vehicle driven by Caroljo Nagel, 62, also of Kimball.   • Red collection boxes distributed to aid City of Bayard

    Wolf Auto Center and the Kimball Banner County Chamber of Commerce have partnered to raise money for the City of Bayard following the destruction caused by a tornado last month. Kimball citizens might see red collection boxes in local businesses for this purpose. Boxes have also been distributed to businesses in Ogallala, Sidney, Bridgeport, Scottsbluff and Gering.     Rick Wangler, Kimball County Weed Superintendent, came before the Kimball Board of Commissioners on Thursday, July 6, to discuss the effects of Bindweed throughout the county. Placing Bindweed back on the noxious weed list in Kimball County was a matter addressed at an earlier meeting and it became clear that few would agree on the same solution.     Kimball County Sheriff Harry Gillway said that the spaghetti feed at Oliver Reservoir this past weekend was a huge success.
