The Coyotes got their first win of the season againts Leyton last Tuesday Dec. 12 and according to coach Ryan Mumm that was the best game they have played to date this season. “Dylan Nielsen and Connor Williams both had nice games scoring 14 points each,” Terell Gray had his best game so far scoring seven points and grabbing 13 rebounds. 5-1 overall and 2-0 in district, not a bad way to start the season for the Potter-Dix Lady Coyotes. Just like the Coyotes the girls for Potter-Dix also added a W last Tuesday night againts Leyton. The Potter-Dix girls out scored Leyton 54-34. The Lady Coyotes saw a different outlook against Caliche Friday night, with another win 36-22. Shop-with-a-Cop was another bright spot in the holiday season. With all the help from the Nebraska State Patrol, Kimball Sheriffs Department, Kimball Police Department, Dix Volunteer Fire Department, Kimball Fire Department, Regional West EMTs, and many more that volunteered their time to make this event so special. The Creek Valley Storm came to town last Friday looking for a win over conference rival, but those plans didn’t quite unfold the way the Storm expected. Potter-Dix shut out Creek Valley 16-0 in the first quarter and only allowed them to score 11 points in the second quarter ending the first half 11-23 Potter-Dix. While the Lady Coyotes are getting off to a great start to the season the boys from Potter-Dix are struggling to find some rythm and scoring. With Creek Valley coming to town last Friday, the Coyotes were only able to put eight points on the board to the Storm’s 20 points in the first quarter. Another great year is to be expected for Longhorn Basketball under head coach Luke Dea once again. Last year Kimball finished Runner-Up in the SPVA Tournament, made a finals appearance in C2-12 Subdistrict, as well as an appearance in the Semifinals of the WTC Tournament. Jeri Ferguson’s Civics class at Kimball High School continue working to make a difference. They hope to raise awareness of current military members and veterans. According to KHS senior, Justine Heeg, the Civics class is organizing a fundraiser this week to design and make an insignia for each branch of the military to be displayed around the school. Kimball Police Department reports that in the month of November they received eight calls regarding vehicle break-ins. Additional calls have been received regarding break-ins in area storage units and Plains Body Shop also had a related call. KPD has announced that officers are working 12-hour shifts, around the clock to bring these incidents to a halt. Banner County girls basketball had their first game at home last Friday night with Garden County. Potter-Dix Lady Coyotes made the trip to Kimball for a two-day tournament to begin their 2017-18 basketball season. The Lady Coyotes split the weekend with a loss to Kimball on Friday, Dec. 1, with a final score of 66-47. The Kimball Parade of Lights lit up the streets of downtown Kimball like the stars in the North Pole on a Christmas night. A total of 11 floats decorated in Christmas spirit rolled through Second Street Saturday night. The Nebraska Statewide Radio System is a must for all Sheriff's departments along Interstate 80 in the state of Nebraska, according to Kimball County Sheriff, Harry Gillway, and Kimball is now one of many using the state-of-the-art system.
