Lady Longhorns Volleyball played a triangular with Potter-Dix and Bayard on Oct. 3. The first game was against Bayard, Kimball lost in two games, the first set Bayard came away with a 25-19 win, the second ended with Bayard on top again 25-22. The Lady Longhorn golfers had a chilly outing last Monday, Oct. 2, for District Competition at Ogallala. This was the last high school tournament for the three senior girls. Senior Lila Moore shot a 122, which was not her best of the season, but she nearly ended up making it to state - few strokes away. Senior Leisha Casimiro shot a 136, which was good enough for a personal best, and senior Natasha Selves shot a 159. The Coyotes suffered another hard loss on the season. Hay Springs out scored the Coyotes 57-8 in the game over all with keeping Potter Dix scoreless in all but the second quarter. The Potter-Dix Lady Coyotes wrapped up another win against Caliche last Thursday, Oct. 5 at home. The Coyotes won in four sets, PD took the first set with a 16-25 win, and lost the second set 26-24, but it was all Potter-Dix from there, winning the third set 25-19 and the fourth set 25-17. Old "shoot" cars that were most likely donated to the Kimball Police Department years ago, have now been smashed. Thursday, Sept. 28, Chief Andy Bremer, pictured below, and Mayor Keith Prunty watched as the shoot cars KPD used for training purposes got crushed. Sandhills Energy was the original developer, Aspenall Energies purchased the project from Sandhill this past August, according to John Brown, Chief Development Officer of Aspenall Energies. Kimball County Commissioners accepted the resignation of Sheana Hendrickson from the Kimball County Veteran’s Service Office at their regular meeting, Tuesday, Sept. 19. With that resignation, VSO Bob Jenner will man the office Monday through Friday from 10 - 4 with lunch from 11:30-12:30 each day. Jenner gave the monthly report at this meeting, including the number of Veteran visits, 80, through the month. The average time spent with each Veteran was three to five hours. The season goals are being reached. Kimball Girls Golf had two tournaments this past week, the first one was Tuesday, Sept. 19 in Ogallala. The Lady Longhorns faced two big losses last week, one at home and one on the road. The first loss last week came at home when Kimball faced Hershey. Kimball Junior High Volleyball was in action, against Sidney on Monday, Sept. 11, and against Leyton and Banner County in a triangular matchup on Thursday, Sept. 14. The 8th grade girls A team vs. Sidney ended in a loss in two sets, 7-25 and 17-25. Annissa Kizzair and Peyton Wise scored 4 points each. Kimball Cross Country runners were busy again last Thursday Sept. 21, in Ogallala, Junior Varsity and Varsity ran together. There was a total of 166 runners just in the boys race. Coffee break at Laura Lee’s Double L Country Store, last Wednesday Sept. 20, Nebraska Congressman Adrian Smith met with many from the surrounding communities in Harrisburg. On Tuesday Sept. 12, Officer Michael Winget of the Kimball Police Department was dispatched near Fourth St. in reference to an individual who was potentially molesting children at City Park. According to the arrest affidavit, Officer Winget contacted the reporting party who said suspect, Gary Hart, of Kimball had been at City Park and was bothering children playing there. The town of Kimball can sure sing, and sing they did this past Saturday evening at the Kimball Event Center. Karaoke night at the Kimball Event Center was hosted to answer local kids’ cries of, “There isn’t anything to do here.” Kids of all ages joined in the fun from 6-8 p.m., with pizza, music, dancing and prizes. Kimball Police Department and the City of Kimball wish to remind residents that old mattresses and other big household items should be taken directly to the Kimball Landfill. These items do not go out by the dumpster, as some residents have done. They need to be disposed of properly, this simple task helps out everyone in the community. Around 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept.17, Kimball Police Department received a call about two vandalized vehicles at a shop on the west side of town. Investigation continues.
