    As the pool wrapped up its first few days of Summer 2017 business, everyone was pretty busy. The first day open the facility recorded a total of 78 swimmers, though management was forced to close early when some swimmers forgot to shower before getting in the water.     Summer brings out the weeds in western Nebraska and Jeff Lampmann, Inspection Specialist for the Nebraska Department of Agriculture joined Kimball County Weed Superintendent Rick Wangler at the recent Kimball County Board of Commissioners meeting, June 6, to review the scores for control of noxious weeds in Kimball County.     Kimball faced Ft. Morgan during the Gering tournament on Sunday, June 11. The young Legion team was defeated 11-1, but several players made key improvements. Brady Kilgore hit a single then added a triple to the Kimball board. Colton Meilke and Cole Henton each hit a single.     As Kimball took the field at home Thursday, June 1, the young Legion players didn't seem quite ready for their first game against Bridgeport. Kimball had the better bats than Bridgeport and played good defense but when it came to pitching, the local athletes struggled to find a good rhythm. Kimball pitchers combined to walk and hit 17 Bridgeport batters in the first game alone.     The board received a presentation about the Kimball Power Plant regarding ways to improve the system that runs hot water from the power plant to the electric shop, through the coils under the floor to heat the shop.     Kimball Legion Baseball, traveled to Torrington, Wyo., on Friday, May 26 and the young club came home with a loss despite valiant efforts on the diamond. Kimball lost the first game scoring just four runs to Torrington's seven. The pitching for Torrington was stronger than Kimball's with Kimball walking a lot of hitters.     The Mobile Emergency Command Center Region 21 rolled into town Tuesday May 16 to let the Kimball County Board of Commissioners tour the bus. Kimball just joined four other counties that this Mobile unit services on April 1 2017. If needed this bus will go out if a disaster happens, like a flood, tornado and set up.     County road maintenance is a long standing concern for Kristopher Nitz, a resident who lives on County Road 63. Nitz addressed the Kimball County Board of Commissioners at their May 16 meeting regarding the condition of the road.     The Kimball High School will soon receive a facelift, in the form of new windows that will be installed in eight east and west classrooms this summer.
