    The Outstanding performance at the 2018 Best in the West Track and Field Meet should go to those who delayed the running of the meet one day to give the athletes, and fans, a chance to perform, and enjoy, excellent weather, instead of more wind and cold.     Chase County showed off their power in winning both the boy’s and girl’s divisions of the SPVA Conference Track and Field championship held at the Sidney Track facility this past Friday. In the Women’s division they scored 160 points, with St. Pats runner-up with 128, followed by Bridgeport with 83, Sutherland 48, Hershey 45, Perkins County 32 and Kimball 28.     Make room for two more trophies in the Kimball High Athletic Trophy case, as the Kimball boys brought home top honors from both conference golf tournaments this past week!     The spring sports season for our area athletes is fast drawing to a close. This week’s schedule has the Kimball High Boy’s Golf Team in action on the home course at the Four Winds tomorrow (Friday) and this is a chance for you fans to get out and watch our boys in action. Start time is 9 a.m., so no Open Golf until later in the day. They will also be at Bayard on Tuesday (May 8). The Junior High Track Team is at Hershey TODAY for SPVA Conference.     Another strong showing by the Kimball Junior High girls at this past week’s Laramie County Junior High Track Invite held in Burns. Torrington won the girl’s division with 128.5 points, with Burns 2nd with 110. Kimball finished 3rd in the 11 school field with 80.5 points. An outstanding day for Chantel Malson, who won the 100 meter dash in 14.25, ran 3rd in the 200 in 30.71, was 3rd in the pole vault at 6’6” and ran a leg on the winning 4x100 relay, teaming with Tianna Stierwalt, Amy Birkhofer and Payton Wise to run the winning time of 57.51....

    The Kimball High Boy's Golf Team picked up their fourth team championship of the season by winning the Division Two title at the Scottsbluff Tournament held Monday at the Scottsbluff Country Club course.     The weather is still playing havoc with our area sports schedules and our Kimball High Track athletes had their meet at Morrill cancelled this past Saturday because of the winter-type storm that rolled into the area.     Mitchell captured both divisions of the 2018 Western Trails Conference Track and Field Meet held at Morrill this past week.     The Kimball girls captured the team title of the Potter-Dix Junior High Track Invite held at the Kimball site this past week, scoring 152 points to hold off Burns, who finished just a few points back with 147. Pine Bluffs had 69, Leyton 44, Morrill 17, Minatare 17, Potter-Dix 16 and Banner County 3. I am to the point of wondering if it is even worth the time of listing events, as there is a good chance they will be moved.     Kimball's Jordan Greenwood is faring well with college golf as a member of the highly respected Southeast Community College Men's Golf Team.     The Kimball High Boy's Golf Team opened their season at the Gering Quad this past week in an event that was not on the original schedule.     Kimball had lots of highlights at the Bayard C-D Track Invite, but none better than the gold medal wins by Brady Kilgore and Jaden Mohr, both in the boy’s division. The Kimball boys scored 34 points to finish 6th in the field of 18 schools. Kilgore racked up his 3rd consecutive win in the 110 meter hurdles winning the gold with his improved time of 15.2 on a cold and dreary track day.     Payge Hoffman and Trinity Langley accounted for a good share of the scoring for the Potter-Dix Girls at the Bayard C-D Track Invite this past week, with both bringing home gold medals. Hoffman got her gold in winning the long jump with a leap of 15’3” and Langley took home the gold in the high jump, clearing 5’0” to win the event. With a reported 497 athletes, all competing in one class, Brady Kilgore and Hannah Biesecker took the top marks in their favorite events.
