With the signing, Hannah will now become the second family member to select the sport of volleyball at the college level, but unlike her older sister, Madison, Hannah is staying closer to home in choosing the college located in North Platte, making a shorter trip for family and friends who wish to continue to watch her play. Madison just...

The Dundy County-Stratton LadyTigers held off Kimball in the championship game of the Kimball 4-Team Tournament over the weekend to take top honors and Potter-Dix won over Morrill for consolation and 3rd place honors. In the opening game of girl's play, Dundy Co-Stratton won over Morrill 66-38 while Kimball won out over Potter Dix 66-47 in the other first round pairing. • Longhorns get wrestling season underway

    Tom Southard|Dec 7, 2017

The 2017-18 Wrestling Season is underway for the Kimball High Longhorns. They opened up with a home dual with Bayard on the final day of November and despite the losing score of 40-5, Coach Wade Brashear saw some good wrestling from some of his limited squad. The Tigers won 4 matches by forfeit as Kimball could not fill the weight classes. The Horns could put only 5 wrestlers on the mats against Bayard and their lone win on the evening was by Jordan Cluff at 120 with a technical fall over...

We got the High School Winter Sports Season officially off and running this past week with the Kimball High Wrestlers hosting Bayard for a dual and then going to Akron for Tournament action this past Saturday. The Basketball teams hosted their own 4-team tournament and I wish I could say all went well, but certainly not for the Reader family. One year ago, Alex Reader went down in a game at Morrill that cost her a junior season of her favorite sport. Saturday evening, her sister, Kate, also in her junior season, went down with the same type...

  • Kimball and Gering play practice scrimmage

    Tom Southard|Nov 30, 2017

The Kimball Longhorns got the basketball season underway Monday evening with a practice scrimmage with the Gering girls and boys. The Nebraska School Activities Association allows all Nebraska High Schools to hold an early game with any selected opponent with the proceeds to go towards helping fund the Nebraska State Hall of Fame. Kimball and Gering went against each other last year at the Gering site. Most schools elect to play the game like a regulation contest but at Gering's request, the Kim...

The lull between the fall sports and the winter sports is about to end as far as our Kimball High schedules are concerned. The Longhorns had an exhibition type night with Gering coming to Kimball for the NSAA Hall of Fame Jamboree this past Monday evening, but no score was kept officially, and it will not count on their win/loss status. The real season begins this weekend with Kimball hosting a four-school tournament on Friday and Saturday. The schedule for Friday has the Dundy County girls going against the Morrill girls at 3 p.m., followed...

  • Has an athletic career really ended for Madison

    Tom Southard|Nov 9, 2017

Has an athletic career really ended for Madison? That is the question that awaits Madison Biesecker and all of her Kimball fans and family. The young lady who performed so well while a Kimball High student while competing in volleyball, basketball and track and field was talented enough to attract the attention of college coaches and accepted a scholarship offer to continue playing volleyball at Southeast Community College in Beatrice, Nebraska. She closed out her two year career for Southeast...

  • Winless season for Kimball Football but things will change

    Tom Southard|Nov 2, 2017

With a 53-6 loss at Valentine in their final football game of the season, the Kimball High Longhorns finished out a winless season, but there are big changes ahead for the Horns as they turn to 8-man football next year. A quick summary of the few highlights of the loss at Valentine includes the lone TD which came on a 20 yard pass completion from Izaac Reuter to Zane Anthony in the 2nd period. The hosting Badgers dominated the contest, as expected, as they entered the contest ranked number 7 in the Class C2 state rankings and moved into the...

I guess the Fall Sport season is over for the Kimball High Athletes and it ended at Scottsbluff High School this past Monday evening when the Lady Longhorn Volleyball Team lost 3 sets to Bridgeport in sub-district Tournament play. The Kimball ladies looked good in the first set and appeared they were going to win as they got out to some nice leads, but after scoring 22 points and still on top by 5 points, the momentum switched and Kimball lost 22-25. In the second set, the Lady Longhorns played like, “What just happened” and they never did get...

Another real tough night for the Kimball Football Team as they entertained the North Platte St. Pats Irish at Friday night’s Homecoming game. The visitors won out 56-7 and the Longhorns got their lone touchdown with 2:43 left in the contest with the reserves of both clubs finishing out. Sophomore Brendan Walker connected with sophomore Austin Lulf for a 21 yard TD and Kole Bush kicked the PAT. As you might expect, the stats were dominated by the winners but as always there were some highlights for the Horns. Ethan Ratzlaff, a freshman, led t...

Kimball suffered one more loss this past Friday losing 35-13 to visiting Bayard, but this was one of those games where Kimball actually dominated in many categories but still came up short on the scoreboard. A big night for Mitch McKibbon, Bayard quarterback, who played a part in all of the Tiger’s scoring. McKibbon ran for 3 touchdowns and passed for 2 more while amassing 167 yards rushing on 13 carries and connecting on 11 of 19 passes for 82 yards. Izaac Reuter was busy throwing the football and completed 19 of 33 attempts for 187 yards w...

Southeast won the team title handily with their two day totals of 291-283. • Junior High program suffers lack of numbers

    Tom Southard|Sep 21, 2017

Kimball has very limited athletes this year for Jr. high football, when we are all ready to go we have 20 kids out. We got all the boys out in the jr. high with the exception of 7 or 8. Just not a lot of boys in these 7th and 8th grade classes. This year we will combine to make one team and only get one game with our lack of numbers. We had our first game Sept. 5 at home against Hemingford. This was played as a 8 /11 man game. When Kimball had the ball we played 11 man and when Hemingford had the ball it was 8. It is fun to play a little 8 man...

High School sports in our Westen Nebraska smaller schools is becoming a numbers games. The numbers seem to be shrinkng. Banner County is finding it hard to field a team in six man football and has had to cancel games. Potter-Dix is struggling to put an eight man team on the field. Kimball has had to cancel all of their junior varsity games, and is having to go to their freshman and sophomore kids to fill starting spots. They started the season with around 23 players, but with injuries, and sometimes eligibility problems, they are hurting to fil...

The 2017 version of the annual 2-person, Triple Play Golf Tournament is now in the books and was termed a success by Four Winds Pro Chad Wise. A total of 22 teams participated in the event that Chad initiated as a memorial to his father and this tournament is simply a lot of fun, along with some very nice prizes, many offered up out of the personal pocket of Mr. Wise. The winning team this year was Brandon Stark and Joe Wilson with a handicap score of 64.2. Randy Bohac and Kevin Thomas finished runner up with 69.4 and edged out the team of...
