The Kimball High Wrestling Team did not have one of their better performances at the Western Trails Conference Tournament held this past Thursday at Hemingford with only senior Rowdy Keller bringing home a place for the Horns, but they came back stronger on Saturday at the Garden County Tournament. Three tough opponents coming off the Holiday break brought about three weekend losses for the Kimball High boy's basketball team. Kimball’s junior varsity basketball teams got in three games each this past week with the girls winning one and the boys doing the same. The girls lost to Sidney 56-23 on Thursday night with Myriah Tyan scoring 10, Hannah Biesecker 6, Shauntae Daily 5, and Justine Heeg 2. Sidney had 12 players score for them as they ran players in and out. It was a split weekend for the Kimball Lady Longhorn basketball team as they lost to Hershey on Friday night 38-32 but came roaring back on Saturday eveing to win over Bayard 76-51, running their season record going into the Holiday break at 4-2. Free throw shooting can win you ball games, and it can also result in losing ball games. Poor performance at the foul line cost the Kimball boys Friday night and free throw shooting also played a part in a loss on Saturday night for the Horns. Coach Wade Brashear had a very limited squad at the Banner County Wrestling Tournament Saturday due in part to sickness, injury, test requirements and other reasons but none the less there were bright spots for the Longhorns. The Kimball High boys opened the season with a pair of wins in capturing the championship of their own four team tournament this past weekend as new head coach Luke Dea saw his new role as the head man start off in the right way. The Kimball High Wrestling Team got the season underway at a dual meet in Bayard this past Thursday and travelled to Akron, Colorado on Saturday to take part in the Chuck Annand Tournament Bayard won out 48-15 in the dual competition picking up points in several weight classes where Kimball was open. The Kimball Lady Longhorns fell to a very good Dundy County-Stratton team 70-51 in first round play, but came back to win 51-13 over McPherson County to capture third place honors at the Kimball Tournament this past weekend. With the resignation of Bruce Tjosvold at the end of last season, a new era of Kimball High Boy's Basketball is about to begin with the dawning of a new Dea! That new Dea is Luke Dea, the man who will now assume the role of head master after serving the past 8 years as an assistant in the program. The opening weekend of the Nebraska Firearm deer season proved to be bountiful with 101 deer checked in at the Kimball check-in station located once again at Sportsman's Liquor Store. The cold weather with freezing temperatures~along with snow and blowing snow didn't seem to affect the hunting, and perhaps even improved it with the animals moving about. Kimball's Jared Hunsaker was notified back in September that he was to be honored by Southern Utah University as a Top 100 Football Player for that learning establishment.
