    The Kimball High girls wound up 4th at the SPVA Tournament held at the North Platte Community College this past week. As reported in last week's sports, the Kimball ladies won their first round game with Perkins County 52-31 to advance them into the semi finals against C-l state ranked Hershey where they lost 48-27, and in the consolation finals for third-fourth, the Lady Horns lost 56-51 to a very solid Sutherland team.     Rowdy Keller was Kimball’s “outstanding performer” according to Kimball High Wrestling Coach Wade Brashear at the Lingle-Ft. Laramie two-day wrestling tournament held this past weekend. Keller finished runnerup in the 113 pound weight class, a solid accomplishment at the huge, and always tough tournament, where it is very hard to earn a place.     Two more wins for the Kimball High boys basketball team over the past weekend running their season record to 9-1 as they headed into this week's SPVA tournament play in North Platte. The highly expected shootout with Bridgeport on Friday night didn't materialize as Kimball pretty much dominated in the "Mike and Jake" show with Kimball winning out 65-53. The Horns came back on Saturday night to win over Gordon/Rushville 73-55 as Mike Daum set a new school single game scoring record of 41 points....

    Two more wins for the Kimball High girls over the weekend as they rolled over Bridgeport 55-35 on Friday night and then put away Gordon/Rushville 58-42 on Saturday. With the two victories the Lady Longhorns ran their record to 8-3 as they headed into this week's SPVA Tournament play in North Platte.     The Kimball High Wrestling Team played host to Southeast, Lingle, and Morrill in a Quad Dual affair this past week. The Lingle-Fort Laramie team won all three of their team matches defeating Southeast 54-30, Morrill 48-9, and Kimball 40-25. Southeast won over Morrill 40-18 and Kimball 39-34, and Kimball won over Morrill 42-24.     The Kimball High boys' basketball team suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of a very strong class B Sidney team this past Thursday night on the latter's home court with a final score of 63-45. It was a simple case of Kimball not being able to match up with the overall depth and talent of the Raider Team, that followed up their win over Kimball, with a win over #5 ranked Class B Gering the next night.     A heart-breaking loss, a heart-thumping win, and a somewhat easier win gave the Kimball High Lady Longhorns a record of two wins and 1 loss in last week's competition.     Highlight of the week for the Kimball High Wrestling Team was an individual championship by Garrett Ryan at the Western Trails Conference Tournament held in Gordon this past Thursday. Ryan, a junior, pinned his way to the championship in the 120 pound weight class as Kimball finished 5th in the team standings and had 4 other wrestlers place.     The Kimball Lady Longhorns are 4-2 at the Holiday break but coach Chauncey Pedersen is looking to cut down on turn overs and improve the shooting of the team as they gear up for the return to play this week. The Kimball girls are shooting 28% from the field including 30% on 2 point shots from the floor and 23% from three point range. The turnover total for the 6 games is 118 or just under 20 per game.     The Kimball High boys are perfect and undefeated at the Holiday break with a record of 6-0 after wins over Hershey and Bayard. Fifty-nine seemed to be the feature number in the final weekend before the state mandated sports moratorium as they won over Hershey in a Friday night home game 59-36 and then handled Bayard at Bayard 59-31.     The Kimball High boys remain undefeated on the young season running their record to 4-0 with wins over Perkins County and Morrill over the weekend.     A pair of wins over the past weekend extends the Kimball High girls win-loss record to 3-1. The Lady Longhorns won on the road at Grant 54-33 Friday night and defeated Morrill 48-36 on the home court Saturday.     The Kimball High boys got the season off to a great start by winning their own four team tournament this past weekend to open up the 2013-14 basketball season.
