    With the exception of the state champions, all teams end their seasons with a loss, some sooner than others. The Kimball High Lady Longhorn volleyball team saw their season come to a close Monday night in first round play of the C2-12 sub-district tournament being held in Ogallala, falling to Dundy County/Stratton in 3 sets by scores of 25-15 25-14 25-12.     A dramatic 28-27 win over Bayard in the regular season final contest Friday night at Keith Staehr Field evened the Kimball High Longhorns season out at 4 wins and 4 losses and sends the Horns back to the State Playoffs for the third consecutive year.     Kimball High School hosted the 2013 Western Trails Conference Volleyball Tournament this past Saturday and the Lady Longhorns captured third place with Mitchell the champions and Bridgeport finishing runner-up. Mitchell, the number 1 seed received a first round bye, then swept their way through the tournament winning over Kimball in 2 sets 25-19 27-25, and Bridgeport 25-11 25-22.     Senior Laura Flores and junior Ryan Muneio will represent Kimball High at this Friday’s State Cross Country Meet being held at the Kearney Country Club Golf Course. The Longhorns failed to qualify either their girls or boys as a team, but got superb efforts from the two individual qualifiers who both have an excellent chance at bringing home state medals.     Kimball gave up two early touchdowns at Bridgeport Friday night, trailed 18-0 at half time, and ended up losing 24-8 in a C-2 District contest. The win assured the hosting Bulldogs a spot in the state playoffs while Kimball is looking for one more win, tomorrow night (Friday), when Bayard comes to town, to get them into the state playoffs.     Foul weather, including threeinches of rain on Monday, cancelled the first day of the Girl’s Class C Golf Tournament reducing it to just a one day and 18-hole affair on Tuesday at the Quail Run Golf Course in Columbus.     The Kimball Longhorns picked up their third straight win of the season in a storm delayed Saturday evening win over visiting Perkins County at Keith Staehr Field.
