  • Miss Nebraska talks to Kimball High students

    Miss Nebraska, JaCee Pilkington, was crowned on June 13, 2013. In September she competed for Miss America in Atlantic City. Although she was not crowned Miss America she is still attending to her duties as Miss Nebraska. These duties include visiting various schools around Nebraska, as well as rotary clubs. She also appears at other functions for charities and special events. When she won Miss Nebraska she took a year off school so that she could attend to her duties as Miss Nebraska properly.... Full story

  • Heineman proposes 'earned time' legislation

    Nebraska Governor David Heineman and Attorney General Jon Bruning have announced a proposed replacement for the 'good time' law that would force violent offenders to earn time off their sentence instead of being rewarded essentially one day off their sentence for every day spent incarcerated.   • Dead Eye shooter Madie Snyder qualifies for air rifle championship

    Local student Maddie Snyder has qualified for the 2014 Army National Junior Air Rifle Championships (USANARC). She is currently a student at Kimball High School, and her mother and father are her coaches in the 4-H Dead Eye Shooters Club. Nicole Snyder, Madie's mother, explains where they will be going and the competition itself. "We received information that she placed 13th out of about 750 kids and that qualified her to go to nationals. We will be going to Georgia February 24th," Snyder said....

    Joan M. Hilkemeier, 77, of Kimball, died at the Kimball County Manor on Thursday, January 16, 2014. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Kimball with Pastor Carla Gunn officiating. Inurnment will be held in the Kimball Cemetery following the service.     Mary Louise (Innis) Caldwell, 89, of Grand Island, formerly of Kimball, died Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Saint Francis Medical Center. Service was 11:00 a.m. Monday at All Faiths Funeral Home with Dan Naranjo officiating. Burial was in Kimball Cemetery, Kimball, NE. Mary Louise was born November 8, 1924 to John and Phoebe (Reed) Innis at Fort Supply, OK. Survivors include her daughters, Donna Whitaker of Grand Island and Phoebe (Frank) Hellyer of Bullhead City, AZ; and brothers, Roy Dean... Full story

    Ruth Shepard, our mother, grand-mother, great grand-mother and friend of many crossed over into eternity on January 5 2014 in Westminister, California. Ruth was born 1920 on the rural farm land of Elm Creek, Nebraska. Her husband Harry preceded her in death. Ruth is survived by many children, several grand-children and many special friends. Ruth will be missed by all. A special memorial service will be held in Kimball, Nebraska at a later date to be announced.... Full story

  • Horns win two more, Daum sets school record

    Two more wins for the Kimball High boys basketball team over the past weekend running their season record to 9-1 as they headed into this week's SPVA tournament play in North Platte. The highly expected shootout with Bridgeport on Friday night didn't materialize as Kimball pretty much dominated in the "Mike and Jake" show with Kimball winning out 65-53. The Horns came back on Saturday night to win over Gordon/Rushville 73-55 as Mike Daum set a new school single game scoring record of 41 points.... Full story

  • Kimball girls rack up two more wins

    Two more wins for the Kimball High girls over the weekend as they rolled over Bridgeport 55-35 on Friday night and then put away Gordon/Rushville 58-42 on Saturday. With the two victories the Lady Longhorns ran their record to 8-3 as they headed into this week's SPVA Tournament play in North Platte. Kimball got off to a quick start against Bridgeport scoring 24 first quarter points with five players getting in on the scoring act led by Shelby Vogel with 8 points and Kelly Green hitting a pair...

  • Kimball wrestlers host quad dua

    The Kimball High Wrestling Team played host to Southeast, Lingle, and Morrill in a Quad Dual affair this past week. The Lingle-Fort Laramie team won all three of their team matches defeating Southeast 54-30, Morrill 48-9, and Kimball 40-25. Southeast won over Morrill 40-18 and Kimball 39-34, and Kimball won over Morrill 42-24. In the win over Morrill, at 220 Damian Rutledge won by forfeit, 285 Eric Escajeda lost by pin :30 seconds, at 145 Ruger Lewis won by pin in 5:47, at 152 Kyle Spicer lost by pin in 1:02.
