While the talk about drone traffic has decreased, the appearance of drones in the area has continued to a lesser degree. Along with the continued appearance of drones, the theories of who is responsible for these aircraft persists. The Soper family agrees that having a foreign exchange student has been a "great experience." They can't wait to go see their Italian foreign exchange student when she returns to Italy. Theatre West sponsored the 2nd annual Voice in the Valley contest Jan. 10-11 and 17-18. Kimball's Tom O'Brien nailed down first place, beating out 20 individuals in the semifinals and four in the finals. O'Brien said of his win, "It was pretty cool. I had known about it last year but didn't get entered. I thought, 'Why not? I haven't done anything like that.' It was lots of fun." As locals are probably aware, Dan Kinnison was a master carpenter and had an abundance of excellent tools. On March 1, 2017, at the age of 93, Mr. Kinnison passed away and since that time, his family has elected to raffle off his fine tools, which include a variety of equipment, such as a table saw, radial arm saw, drill press, bench grinder and compound saw. Good morning Banner County, friends near and far. Beautiful out there this morning, blue and calm. No smell of smoke in the air, unlike one day this past week when the fire department was called to douse a fire which totally destroyed a storage building currently owned by the McKown family. The building was used for storage and was originally used as a blacksmith shop by Walter Schuemaker. We are sorry for the loss. Voncele G. Brown, 80, of San Diego, California, died in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on Monday, January 13, 2020. Funeral services will be provided by Cantrell Funeral home and will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 27, 2020 at 609 S. Walnut, Kimball, Nebraska, with Pastor Dan De Bruyn officiating. I, along with all of the fans who took in the SPVA Conference basketball game between the Kimball and Hershey girls teams at the Kimball High Gymnasium this past Monday, were entertained with a demonstration of long range shooting as the two teams tied a Nebraska Girls State record for most 3 point field goals in a game total with 23. Kimball had 12 and Hershey 11. Shayda Vaughn, a 5’10” sophomore for Hershey, set a school record with her 9 treys. It was a double-win weekend for the Kimball High Boys Basketball Team as they picked up wins over Bridgeport and Gordon-Rushville, running their season record to 7-4, and have won 5 of their last 6 games! The Kimball High Wrestling Team had three wrestlers place at the Chase County Tournament this past Saturday with Stephen Bateman taking 3rd place honors, Trey Schindler 5th, and Matt Johnson 6th.
