Time is of the essence when it comes to funds for rural workforce housing. This and a new Kimball Event Center committee was discussed at the special City Council meeting on Monday, Feb. 5. State grant money is now available for housing and LB840 funds can also be used in certain instances, as well. As a region, Western Nebraska Economic Development (WNED) is seeking grant money totaling $1 million. The Kimball Lady Longhorns achieved one of their goals of their season by winning their first round game in WTC Conference Tournament play by winning over seeded Bayard 44-43 on the Lady Tigers' home court in a Thursday evening contest. The win thus advanced them into weekend play at Cougar Palace in Scottsbluff, while all first round losers were done. The Kimball High boys were the number 7 seed in this past week’s WTC Conference Basketball Tournament and went on the road to Bridgeport to battle number 2 seeded Bulldogs on their home court and lost 43-35, but not before giving the host school a scare. In a low scoring first half, Kimball held a 19-17 lead at intermission after trailing the Dogs 12-11 at the end of the first quarter, and then outscoring Bridgeport 8-5 in the second period. Jaden Mohr and Garrett Pedersen were honored at the recent Kimball High Senior Parent's Night as the two senior members of this year's Kimball High Wrestling Team. Rough weekend for the Potter-Dix Coyotes once again with Friday and Saturday matchups. The Coyotes hosted Garden County Friday night for parents night, and things didn’t really go the way they had planned with the Eagles outscoring the Coyotes 40-13 in the first half.
