Wilma Lockwood-Sigette has fond memories of the old Bushnell Bar building. Wilma's mother, Virginia Haywood, operated a cafe there many years before it was a bar. Now the building is gone. A Potter man died Friday morning as the result of a two-vehicle accident on I-80 in Kimball County. According to a Nebraska State Patrol report, Christopher Maas, 26, was heading eastbound on I-80 in a 2014 Chevy Silverado about 7:30 a.m. when he collided with the rear of a tractor trailer parked on the shoulder near mile marker 29. Maas died as a result of the crash. The driver of the tractor trailer, Kathy Brock, 49, of Irvine, Calif., was transported by ambulance to Kimball Health Services and treated for non-life threatening injuries. The...
Kimball Police Chief Darren Huff hopes the police department will soon have a K9 unit. Huff proposed the establishment of the K9 unit at last Tuesday’s city council meeting. The Kimball planning commission approved a permit for a cell phone tower at its meeting on Feb. 18. The commission members approved a conditional use permit for a Verizon Wireless cell phone tower. If approved by the city council, the tower will be built just east of Kimball near Hwy. 30 close to the golf course. The cell tower in question would stand 338 feet tall, including the eight-foot lightning rod that will be on the top. Tyson Dahlgrin posted a double-double to lead Banner County to a 44-26 win against South Platte on Monday night in the first round of sub-district play. The Wildcats (6-13) took on Minatare Tuesday night in the second round of sub-district play. Dahlgrin led Banner with 16 points and 19 rebounds in the win. Two bowlers turned in perfect 300 games and will have a share of $1,000 in prize money from the Kimball Hospital Foundation’s 9 pin no-tap bowling tournament. Robert Gardner and Scott Smith, both of Kimball, rolled their 300 games during the first weekend of the tournament. The $1,000 prize fund will be shared by all bowlers who score perfect 300 games over the two weekends.
