The Kimball County Jail, which sits on the top floor of the courthouse, is currently undergoing much needed maintenance to address health and safety issues that were brought before Kimball County Sheriff Harry Gillway and the Board of County Commissioners late last year. Kimball will be seeing a rate increase in their electricity bills in April. In an effort to prepare residents for the increase, the city has had letters published explaining the purpose for the rate increases. Project Fun's Giga-Bite has been named Street Characters' Mascot of the month for February. When Police Chief Darren Huff envisioned Project Fun, he wanted the kids to have an example to look up to, someone who could embody the "perfect citizen." Leland S. Nelson, 90, of Bushnell, died at the Kimball County Manor on Sunday, February 23, 2014. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2014 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Kimball with Pastor Carla Gunn officiating. Cremation has taken place. Geneva J. Mathews, 73 of Harrisburg, Nebraska passed away Monday, February 24, 2014 at Heritage Estates in Gering, Nebraska. A viewing will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2014 from 2-4 pm at Gering Memorial Chapel. Cremation will follow. The season came to an end for the Kimball High girls' basketball team following a 47-20 loss to Dundy County in the championship game of the C2-12 sub-district tournament this past Thursday night at Sidney. Kimball had won out 33-21 over Bridgeport in their semi-final game and had a hard time getting their offense rolling either night as they wrapped up a winning season of 13 wins and 11 losses.
