The Sagebrush, formerly known as the Kimball Event Center, is in the process of becoming a reality for some local individuals. Rich and Kelli Patterson and Kevin and Dawn Moser received approval to purchase of the building in February and signed the papers March 3 to become owners of the old Kimball Event Center building. Workers from Anderson-Shaw made quick work of finishing the south side of the new Kimball County Transit building this past week. In less than two hours, they completed half of the wall, then took a break and completed all of it before noon. The remodeling of the building appears to be on schedule. Kimball City Administrator Dan Dean has submitted his resignation, effective May 7, to Mayor Keith Prunty and Kimball City Council. He is retiring. Dean has been the administrator for a little more than three years, since Feb. 1, 2017. His retirement will cap off a 45-year career in public service. After seven days, more than 100 exhibits, 10 prosecution witnesses and four defense witnesses, the Kimball County jury of two women and 10 men could not agree on the fate of Alexander Romero. Romero was accused of intentional child abuse resulting in death of his daughter, 7-month-old Aaliyah. The 2020-21 school calendar was approved by the Kimball school board at its regular meeting on Monday, March 9. According to the calendar, each Wednesday throughout the year will have a 2 p.m. dismissal time. That time will be used for professional development and Professional Learning Communities for the staff. Another special school board meeting will be held on March 13 at 7:30 in the morning. Romona Marcella (Brauer) Shaw, age 91, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2020 in Sidney, NE. Romona was born on September 23, 1928 to Richard and Frieda (Kragel) Brauer and graduated from Sidney High School in 1945. On May 3, 1949, Romona married Clinton Shaw and the couple farmed for several years in the Potter-Dix area. Romona was active in the Jolly Neighbors Club and in 4-H, where she was a leader. The selections for the Western Trails All Conference basketball and wrestling teams have been released after vote by the conference coaches. Kimball High senior Carli Wurdeman was given All Conference honors for her senior and final season, and juniors Megan Spicer and Samantha Bemis were given Honorable Mention. The NEUSA District 1 Wrestling Tournament was held this past weekend in Scottsbluff and the Kimball Wrestling Club had several wrestlers do very well. In the PreK-K division at 32-36 pounds, Decker Culek won both of his matches with pin times of :08 and :36 seconds for 1st place, scoring 9 team points. The 2019-20 season for the Kimball High girls basketball team shows 8 wins and 13 losses, a bit short of what Coach Chauncey Pedersen was hoping for, but in all fairness, it was a season where it seemed on a weekly basis he was short a player or two due to injuries. The lack of experienced height also hurt the cause, but like most years, there were some positive stats.
