The National Weather Service in Cheyenne reported that Kimball received totals of between 18-20 inches of snow on Saturday and Sunday. Cheyenne received 30.8 inches of snow during the same period, which, when melted, proved to be 3 inches of moisture in the Cheyenne area. Region 21 Emergency Management Director Ron Leal said his concerns during the storm were Deuel and Kimball counties. The recent snowstorm caused absences and postponements on the agenda for the Kimball County Commissioners Tuesday meeting. One year ago this week, the toilet paper aisle at Dollar General in Kimball was stripped empty, area schools closed for two weeks only to eventually switch to online classes for the remainder of the year. School activities were canceled, the school food service director Danessa Terrill began preparing and delivering breakfast and lunches to students. Good morning and I hope you are enjoying the heat wave! This past weekend we were given our “winter” season all at once as our entire area and quite a ways beyond was hit with blizzard conditions and lots of snow and cold. Everything here in the Burg was shut down. Needless to say the senior sneakers did not sneak. The time change was not cancelled, however, so we had one hour less of bad weather. William (Billy) D. Olsen Jr., 68, passed away on March 4th, 2021 in Wellington, CO. He was born October 21, 1952 in Kimball, Nebraska and raised on the family farm in Banner County, Nebraska by parents William and Donna (Gulick) Olsen. He graduated Banner County High School in 1970 and shortly after enlisted in the Navy, where he received the National Defense Service Medal for his work on the Suez Canal. Spring is almost here and for the Dead Eye Shooters 4-H Club that means BB gun and Air Rifle competition at State. The Dead Eye shooters 4-H Club, led by Larry and Nicole Snyder for around 14 years, are at it again this year. This year there are roughly 20 kids shooting with the Dead Eyes. The winter sports season ends with the announcements of all-conference selections for the Western Trails Conference – and Kimball High School had a number of athletes who were named and recognized. The unsung heroes of small-town America are the volunteers who sit on boards, committees, and commissions; they help run the town and make it a great place to live, work and play.
