The United States has joined the unfortunate group of countries throughout the world battling the coronavirus pandemic. The effects are being felt here in the Panhandle. According to Panhandle Public Health, six individuals were tested for the virus and their tests came back negative. Those numbers, reported over the weekend, are sure to grow. On Thursday, March 12, the Kimball City Council accepted the proposal from SK Hayes LLC to lease the fitness equipment housed at the former Kimball Event Center. SK Hays and Heather Entingh submitted proposals. According to the winning proposal, the renovated Longhorn building will be the location of the new fitness center. Larry Delynn Peterson, age 83, of Red Feather Lakes, Colorado passed away peacefully March 5, 2020 in Fort Collins, Colorado. Delynn was born December 11, 1936 to Albert and Luella (Lockwood) Peterson in Kimball, Nebraska. He attended Kimball schools and was raised on the family farm north of Dix, Nebraska. Potter-Dix and Banner County FFA members were among those attending the recent FFA district meet in Kimball. More than 320 FFA students attended. Students visited from schools across the region. Meanwhile, this past week, the COVID-19 pandemic impacted the Kimball FFA as it has so many others locally – forcing postponement of the Kimball FFA Alumni and Supporters dinner and article auction and labor auction. Sports are on hold! Thanks to the Coronavirus scare, the National, Collegiate and area High School sports are on hold, with lots of them cancelled for the balance of the season! Kimball High, along with all of the Panhandle schools, are closed completely – thus meaning no track people are allowed to even work out on the school track facilities. For certain there were highs and lows for the Kimball High wrestlers in the 2019-20 season and let's start with junior Connor Cluff setting a new Kimball High School record in escapes improving the record from 35 to 45! Another high was Kimball qualifying 4 wrestlers for the State Tournament!
