The Kimball cemetery went high-tech this April when the original Kimball cemetery directory was replaced with a digital kiosk. The kiosk shows the area where graves are located by section, lot and grave numbers, as the directory before it did, except now the information is viewed electronically. The cemetery board voted to purchase the new kiosk in September with memorial funds. The cost was $25,200, and the kiosk was delivered at the end of March. The Kimball Board of Education approved a bid for the new HVAC system at Mary Lynch Elementary School during its regularly scheduled meeting held Monday. After considering five bids from area providers, the board approved a $94,000 bid from Best Plumbing & Heating of Sidney. “All five of them were reasonable and we had one that was surprisingly low, so we interviewed that contractor,” said Ben Schmitt of Specialized Engineering Solutions in Omaha, who the board hired to assist with the process. Longtime Kimball resident Judy Perry is the new executive director of both Vista Villa and Park Terrace living facilities. Perry was hired for the position in September 2014. Perry, who grew up in nearby Lodgepole, met her husband, Dan, in college. She moved to Kimball with him 34 years ago. The Kimball/Banner Farm Bureau has announced the winners of its agricultural scholarship to five members of the class of 2015. Three students have been selected from Kimball High School and two from Banner County High School. The Kimball City Council approved the purchase of materials needed for road repairs this summer at its regularly scheduled meeting on May 5. The council heard from Adam Vath, of the firm of M.C. Schaff & Associates of Scottsbluff, regarding a bid for the chip seal project for city streets. The bid amount from the company, which has worked with the city often in the past, included alternative bids based on which oil is used for the project. Area schools have planned summer school for the coming year. While Banner County Schools do not have summer programs or summer school planned, both Kimball and Potter-Dix have planned summer school. Potter-Dix classes will be held for two weeks in June, one in July and one in August on weekday mornings.
