Memorial Day services in Kimball will be Monday, May 31, at the Kimball Cemetery. The 10 a.m. service will include the presentation of the flag, the national anthem and taps. Last year, the service was short and sweet to abide by COVID-19 rules, but this year the service itself will return to a more familiar format. The Kimball City Council and the Kimball Board of Public Works met in a joint session on Monday evening in the City Council Chambers. The only item to be discussed at the meeting was the future of the power plant. Although the power plant produced electricity when it was needed in February, over the past few years it has become a drain financially on the city budget. The Kimball City Council meeting did not go as the Porters had hoped. Sonny, Kathy and Gerry Porter were somewhat disappointed by the outcome that council rejected their development project. Sonny Porter said, "Before we commit any more time and money, we need to see what our options are and then see where to go from here." Deborah Trofholz Albertson, 66, of Gering, went home to heaven on May 16, 2021 surrounded by her loved ones. Services were Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at 11 a.m. at the Zion Evangelical Church in Scottsbluff, followed by interment at the Kimball Cemetery. Betty L Zeilinger, 89, of Kimball, ended her battle with ALS on Sunday, May 23, 2021. Funeral services were at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Kimball with Pastor Roger Gillming officiating. Kimball's Longhorn track and field team qualified three athletes for this year's Class C State Championships held in Omaha on May 21-22 at Omaha Burke Stadium. Seniors Christian Allen-Van Pelt and Raven Johnson and junior Kaitlyn Heeg represented the Longhorns, and each athlete went against the best in their class from the entire state. The Potter-Dix Coyotes sent their track and field qualifiers to the NSAA Class D State Championships in Omaha late last week, and some outstanding performances earned a few of the athletes medals at the end of the competition.
