Buckles, boots and spurs filled the Kimball Banner County Fairgrounds arena Saturday evening as cowboys and cowgirls gathered to compete in the 10th Annual Kimball Ranch Rodeo. What caused more than $60,000 in losses since July 1, 2017 throughout Kimball County? USDA Wildlife Specialist, Matt Anderson reported at the June 5 meeting of the Kimball Board of Commissioners that vermin did. Anderson presented a 2017/18 summary of animal damage control which included verified losses to ag land, personal property, livestock and though loss of pets were reported due to vermin, they were not verified. The Kimball Community Trail sponsored by the Kimball Area Foundation Fund is well into Phase 1 of the project. Dr. James "Jim" Plate, 69, of Ogallala passed away Monday June 11, 2018 at his home in Ogallala. Jim was born on June 6, 1949 in Ord to Willis and Rhoda (Miller) Plate. Jim received his early education at Sumter Country School, a rural one-room schoolhouse, through eighth grade and graduated from Ord High School. The Cornhusker State Games Torch Run passed through Kimball on Friday, June 8. Runners gathered at 1 p.m. in front of the Kimball County Courthouse. Kimball High School Cross Country and Track team led by Brady Kilgore leads off this segment. Kilgore was a state medalist in Cross Country. Building on the tradition of excellence, local Rotarians, Lions and other volunteers gathered together last week to replace a sidewalk for an elderly Kimball couple. The project took two days to complete. Volunteers built the sidewalk form on day one at the local residence. Several days later the concrete was poured, leveled and smooth.
