The Kimball County Commissioners called an emergency meeting last Thursday after receiving notice of an inflammatory-worded meeting notice put out by the Kimball County Veterans Service Officer Shaun Evertson. The Kimball Board of Education received the first update on NeSA test scores from new Director of Assessment and Curriculum Vicki Mitchell at its regular board meeting Monday night. The Kimball Power Plant now has a new stack with vents that are up to specification, members of the Kimball City Council learned at the regularly scheduled July 7 meeting. The old, double-walled vent pipe had been bent and rusted, but was recently replaced by the power plant team. Keep Kimball Beautiful addressed issues brought forth by the City of Kimball regarding a nuisance violation on city property used by the organization in conjunction with Kimball’s recycling center. The Kimball County Commissioners declined to join the Western Nebraska Economic Development Group and looked at a potential plan for ending smoking on county property at the July 7 meeting. After a brief discussion, the commissioners voted unanimously to not join the WNEDG at this time. Walker Elvin "Blackie" Blackmore passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at his home in Yukon, Okla. He was born May 1, 1939 to Walker and Thelma (Miller) Blackmore in Yates Center, Kan. Kenneth R. DeFreece, 85, of Kimball, died at his home in Kimball on Saturday, July 11, 2015. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, at the Evangelical Free Church in Kimball with Pastor Hod Boltjes officiating. The Potter-Dix Children's Theater will perform its annual musical this week. The production – held for the eighth consecutive year – serves as a fundraiser for the Potter-Dix Early Learning Facility. Martha Schneider Mossberg was the oldest graduate to attend the Kimball All-Class Reunion over the July 4 weekend. She began school in the District 5 school house, but attended high school at the "Old High School" in Kimball. At that time the junior high was west of the high school building. After 30 years, more than 10,000 miles and 36 hours, 1985 graduate Steve Mackenzie made it back to Kimball – his second home. What may have been a friendly, tongue-in-cheek competition became a double reunion for the Flores family of Kimball. Fifteen graduates from the Flores family attended the 2015 All-Class Reunion.
