Tomorrow, Friday Aug. 4, Martha Mossberg turns 100, though for 90 years the family celebrated on Aug. 11, as she believed that was her birthday. She needed her birth certificate to take a cruise to Alaska, and the document set right the date of her birth, August 4, 1917. Martha was born in Kimball and has lived in this community all but about a year and a half of her life, when she and her husband, Paul, moved to Cheyenne, Wyo. She said she is grateful that she has been able to call the communit...

  • Bike Week nears, share the road safely

    Dakota Kuhns|Aug 3, 2017

As hundreds of thousands of motorcycle riders make their way to Sturgis, SD, this week is a good time to remind everyone how many people will be on the roads. Whether it is Bike Week or not there are things we all can do to keep ourselves and everyone a little safer on the roads. Do not text and drive, there are so many accidents that occur because of this, being distracted by our phones is one of the most dangerous things we can do while driving, not just for us but for everyone on the road. This is true at all times, but please pay extra...

  • Roughing It

    Dakota Kuhns|Aug 3, 2017

A lot like my last column I will repeat a similar set of life lessons that some people forget sometimes. Respect, treat others the way youwant to be treated. Good sportsmanship, is when teammates, opponents, coaches, and officials treat each other with respect. I spent a lot of time at the ball fields this past weekend, and let me tell you, there was a lot of unsportsmanlike conduct involved from a few different teams. In my opinion, as well as many players I spoke with this last weekend, if you don’t like a call, then fine, make a comment o...

    Tonia Copeland|Aug 3, 2017

The Receipts for Cash program at Main Street Market has awarded thousands of dollars to local organizations and as more organizations begin collecting receipts, there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight. This program began as a way to encourage individuals associated with charitable organizations to shop locally. Now that most citizens are saving their receipts for their favorite causes, the program has become one more way that local businesses, organizations and citizens work together for our common good. Here’s how it works: Organizations col...

  • Jock Talk

    Tom Southard|Aug 3, 2017

Some exciting local golf news this week. Let’s start with Dillon Wise and his Hole-in-One this past Saturday July 29. Dillon, at age 16, and heading into his junior year of High School, scored his first Hole-in-One, and did it on Hole number 15, which is a par four! I don’t recall anyone else ever doing this on a par four hole at least since the course has been expanded to the current 18 holes of play! Dillon was playing with Ethan Greenwood when he got his ace. He said “I looked all around the trees and the grass before I looked in the hole,...
