High school students employed at Kimball County Manor, dressed for their prom, paraded down the manor's hall and into the dining area Friday to greet the manor residents and show off their attire. Usually all prom goers show off their attire at the manor, but this year just current high school employees were allowed. A Kimball woman, Alexzandra Trujillo, 29, passed away Monday, Aug. 10, at the scene of an accident south of Kimball. The crash occurred on Highway 71, approximately two miles south of Kimball. Nebraska State Patrol first received a report at approximately 6:30 p.m. Monday. The preliminary investigation showed that a Chevrolet Trailblazer was traveling southbound when it left the roadway, overcorrected, and rolled several times. Even through the COVID-19 pandemic summer, Gotte Park has received some attention from various organizations for upgrades and improvements. The VFW has taken over a specific area of the park for a memorial area. In addition to the service flags, cement has been set for a wall. The VFW sold bricks to be laid as memorials to loved ones. The regular monthly meeting of the Kimball School Board was held Monday, August 10 with about 10 people in attendance. The meeting addressed regular issues, such as board bills, the treasurer’s report, minutes and updates on policies such as wage information and military recruiters. The second reading for a number of different policies to be adopted was approved. The home of Jim and Betty Schulte received the most recent Yard of the Week award. The Schultes have lived in the house at 400 S. High School Street for 35 years. The yard had no flowers when they purchased the home. Although many of the flowers in the yard have already bloomed, the beautifully maintained yard is still eye-appealing. Gary James Waggoner, 71, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, died in Cheyenne, August 2, 2020. Gary was born October 30, 1948 in Bremerton, Washington to Okey Waggoner and Emma (Zaino) Waggoner. They are called Quarter Midgets, which means they are just a scaled-down Midget Sprint car, according to Tim Gasseling of Potter. Fourteen years ago, Tim raced dirt track and he was looking to get his boys into something besides four wheelers. The Kimball Women’s Golf Association played its annual Horse Race. For the finals, three extra holes had to be played to break the three way tie. Taking first place was Pattie Klinginsmith and Jodi Keeler. Pattie and Jodi beat out Nora Robinson and Shellon Anderson. Nora and Shellon received second, beating out Charlotta Young and Phyllis Gross, who placed third.
