The Farmer’s Day Committee is still working on the schedule for the 95th annual Farmer’s Day, which is set for Sept. 25-27. Mayor Keith Prunty has provided an update on significant issues in Kimball, including the status of the city administrator search and the city budget. He said the administrator position is about to be filled. The finalists for the position vacated by Dan Dean in early May are Carson Sisk, Annette Brower and Elizabeth Hansen, although Hansen has recently decided to take her name off the finalist list. The city of Kimball has announced that the grant and loan program that has helped jump-start a string of ambitious business projects in recent months, such as those at the Sagebrush and Longhorn Building for starters, is temporaritly on hold. Banner County School started the 2020-21 school year on Monday with a full day of school during a planned full week of classes. Other area school districts planned to follow suit this week, with Potter-Dix opening on Wednesday and Kimball on Thursday. Even in a year of coronavirus challenges, the Kimball Community Health Fair went on as planned last Friday and Saturday. “Everything went very smoothly,” said Kerry Ferguson, the hospital’s director of community relations. “We had 101 participate on Friday and 96 on Saturday, many of which made appointments beforehand. “That number is about two-thirds of normal, which is understandable considering the COVID-19 restrictions.” Normally a semiannual event in Kimball, the spring health fair was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns. The word from the Big 10 people in charge is no Fall Sports, so it looks like no University of Nebraska sports, including of course, Husker football! That is the bad news, at least as far as I am concerned, along with many others. The 2020 Four Winds Men’s Golf League came to a finish this past week with the team of Tristen and Chris Zitek, out of Pine Bluffs, winning the overall championship. The Zitek team won over the team of Dennis Deboodt and Leo O’Hare in a battle of division champs. But this week I have the entire results of the two day scramble held at the Potter Golf Course thanks to Kristi Jung.
