The Air Force announced that F.E. Warren AFB, Wyo., will begin military construction in 2023 to replace the 50-year-old Minuteman III ICBMs in Colorado, Nebraska and Wyoming. The second installation will be in Malmstrom AFB, Mont., followed by Minot AFB, N.D., in 2026 and 2029, respectively. The City of Kimball announced Tuesday, Aug. 26, that its water department would be doing routine disinfection that day of the water storage tank. Due to the process, there may be some chlorine residual in customers’ water that last about a week, the city said. The water will be safe to use for drinking, cooking and cleaning as usual. Good morning! We are still having mornings that are pretty dulled by all of the surrounding fires, usually burning off by noon. There have been some blood red/hot pink sunrises too if you might have noticed. Hot days for awhile yet, but they sure are getting shorter. Can’t believe that September is almost here. The beautiful white, stately residence of Karen and Stephen Gilliland at 706 Marian St. was awarded the most recent Yard of the Week. According to the Gillilands, the British Border Garden has petunias, hollyhocks, blacked-eyed Susans, hydrangea, mint, fern, cosmos, columbines, iris and they are working on a rose garden in the backyard. As summer draws to a close, the community concert series is usually gearing up for their concert season, but this year there will be a little delay, according to the Kimball Concert Committee. The fall season is cancelled, of course, due to COVID-19. The current plan is to have the spring concerts as scheduled. The Chipper Experience is scheduled for March 22 and on April 17 Veritas will entertain. Beloved by family and friends, Frances Mary Lukassen, 89, of Kimball, passed away peacefully at Heritage Estates in Gering on Wednesday, August 19, 2020. Born on September 24, 1930 to Adolph and Eva (Karges) Kresha, Frances Mary Lukassen, aka Mother Mary was raised in a large family where money was scarce but love abundant. William “Bill” J. McManigal, 68, of Kimball, died at his home in Kimball on Wednesday, August 19, 2020. The Fall Sports schedule is underway for Kimball High athletes as the girls golf team got things going by competing in the Sidney Tournament on Tuesday this week, and today (Thursday), they are back in action at the Bayard Tournament.
