Parker Frederick, the 11-year-old grandson of Barb and Barry Frederick, nominated their yard for Yard of the Week. Barb and Barry's acreage and residence reflect a beautiful setting along Lodgepole Creek, a few miles east of Kimball. They share their place with turkeys, birds and deer. The new Banner County Wildcats football team played their first game last Thursday on their home field. It was an accomplishment and a challenge. The Wildcats had six freshmen and sophomores and one junior hitting the field while the opposing Minatare Indians fielded an experienced set of upperclassmen. The Kimball girls golf team picked up a pair of team championships this past week and Payton Wise added a pair of medalist honors to her season as well. The Kimball girls won their own Invitational Tournament and captured top honors at the Creek Valley Tournament in Chappell. The Kimball Longhorns volleyball team hosted Leyton's Lady Warriors on Tuesday, Sept. 1, dropping the match three sets to one. Potter-Dix’s Coyote football team improved to 2-0 on the young season with an impressive 61-32 road win against the Sioux County Warriors. Sioux County started the game with a good drive highlighted by two fourth down conversions and grabbed an early six point lead. Leyton’s Warrior Football team traveled from Dalton for a Friday early afternoon contest against the Kimball Longhorns. The Warriors defeated the Maywood / Hayes Center Wolves in a dominating performance, while the Longhorns were coming off a 66-6 opening loss at home against Hitchcock County. Good morning everyone, friends near and far. Here is hoping that you all had a great weekend and that the cold front that moved in for a few days is not going to be our “new normal” for a while yet.
