Although the outside of the Plains Historical Museum (the old high school) might look the same as it did in the 1960s or '70s, the inside is beginning to take shape. What goes around comes around. Bob Mueller is back on his bike – but not the motorized one he made when he was 13 years old. At 84, Mueller rides nine miles every other day in order to keep himself fit. "I like to go early in the morning," he said. "Less traffic, less wind, and in the summer it is cooler." The Kimball School Board held its annual budget hearing Tuesday to set the final tax request, and it was approved with little discussion. The 2019-20 property tax request is $6,078,260.73. Of that amount, $150,000.00 is for a Special Building Fund. According to the resolution, “The total assessed value of property increased from last year’s total assessed value by 1.3%. The combined property tax request and changes in other revenue, the total combined operating budget for 2019-20 for the School District #1 will exceed the previous year by 0.1...
Spending is down a bit and the tax rate up nearly 2 cents for every $100 of property valuation under the $32.45 million Kimball County budget that the board of commissioners approved Sept. 4. For the owner of a $100,000 home, annual county property taxes will increase from about $426 to $445. Kimball police officers and a Kimball County sheriff’s deputy initiated a traffic stop Sept. 7 on a vehicle in the 300 block of South Chestnut Street for failing to utilize its turn signal. After officers made contact with the driver, they said they requested and received consent to search the vehicle. A pat search of the driver revealed an item of drug paraphernalia on their person. A busy weekend for the Kimball High Sports teams and their fans. It starts out on Friday with the Kimball Invitational Cross Country Meet being held at the Four Winds Golf Course with a 12 noon start time for the junior high runners followed by the high school races.
