  • The Seeds Have Been Sown

    Jim Orr, The Observer|Oct 10, 2019

The theme for the 2019 Kimball Farmer's Day celebration was "Sowing Seeds of Success." That phrase may apply to the event itself. Some new events this year, such as the bike race and cornhole tournament, worked out well and are worthy of growing, Farmer's Day chairperson Assunta Nelson told the Observer. Nelson said the Farmer's Day Committee held its wrap-up meeting last week. She said the committee did a "bang-up job" this time around. "I think things went really good," she said. "I mean,...

All of which followed a temperature free fall on Wednesday that was forecast to nosedive from about 80 to 20 degrees and cause pre-snow rainfall to freeze. • The Beat Goes On In Banner As First Snowfall Approaches

    Barb Cross, The Observer|Oct 10, 2019

Good morning Banner County, at least so far. As I write this, we are preparing for our first winter snow. Yuck. I am never ready, and won’t be until about Dec. 24. Too bad, too sad for me; here it comes anyway! Here are a few things going on that will help keep you busy this week, mostly indoors. Today, Oct. 10, at 7:30 p.m. there will be a Science on Screen discussion and screening of “Between the Folds,” which is an overview of origami as an art form.I myself have always thought of origami as such. However, this is also about the influ...

    Claire Smith, The Observer|Oct 10, 2019

The Village of Potter sponsored a fall community cleanup event this past weekend to help residents and businesses get rid of unwanted household and nuisance items for free. Initially held in May 2012, the cleanup now happens twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall. Potter Village Clerk Melissa Gorsuch noticed that the village was dealing with quite a few nuisance issues and this service seemed like a great way to make it easier for people to maintain their properties. "Now they...

Anyway, you can read about the running of the Farmer’s Day Fun Run in this week’s sports. A change in advance of the cross country meets scheduled for this week as officials have wisely moved them ahead of the bad weather we are forecast to get. The Western Trails meet at Bay...

Potter-Dix's Lady Coyotes travelled to Chappell Friday to take on rival Creek Valley and won three sets to one against a tenacious Lady Storm team that battled throughout the match. Potter-Dix started fast in the first set, pulling out to an 8-to-1 lead before the Lady Storm was able to string consecutive points together to narrow the lead. The Lady Coyotes finally regained their rhythm, and opened up a big lead and looked to cruise to a comfortable first set win. But the Lady Storm started a...
