    The Farmers' Almanac might be onto something with its forecast for a frigid and snowy winter in these parts. It already started. The first winter-like storm of the season, which blasted the Panhandle last Thursday, knocked out electrical power for about 80 percent of Kimball and dropped temperatures from 64 to 21 degrees days over the previous 20 hours.   • Shopko Left, 'Shop With A Cop' Did Not

    Kimball's annual "Shop with a Cop" event is now accepting donations for this year's activities to be held on Dec. 14. This year's event will be different than those held in the past in conjunction with local businesses Pamida and Shopko. Previously, the retail department stores would provide gift cards that children in need could use to purchase holiday gifts for their families.     The Kimball Board of Education met in regular session Sept. 23 in the district office. It began with all of the necessary legalities. Then a representative of the Nebraska Association of School Boards (NASB) gave board members a demonstration of the capabilities of Sparq Paperless Meetings.     Janeen Grace Evertson Robinson was born October 22, 1944, in Beatrice, Nebraska, the daughter of the late Ora and Iola Halcomb Evertson. As a single mother, she found the love of her life and was united in marriage to Glenn Robinson on April 20, 1984. Mrs. Robinson worked for Caterpillar, Inc., in Mossville, Illinois for 23 years as an engineer. In 2001, she along with her husband retired to Tennessee.     The Fall Sports season for Kimball High is drawing to a close with the girls state golf finishing early this week. The District cross country will run today (Thursday) at Bridgeport beginning at 3 p.m.. The volleyball team will be in action at the SPVA Conference Tournament in Grant this Saturday -- October 19th and their sub-district play is coming up the week of October 28th.     Congrats going out to Kimball High sophomore Payton Wise for her awesome play in the Nebraska State Class C Girl's State Golf Tournament that concluded this past Tuesday afternoon in North Platte. From field of 94 golfers, Miss Wise finished third to earn her second state medal in her second season of high school golf.     The visiting Morrill Lions were simply too much for a battered up Kimball Longhorn football squad in Friday night action at Keith Staehr Field with a final score of 48-6. With the loss, Kimball falls to 1 and 5 on the season with two games remaining on the schedule.     The Kimball Longhorns volleyball team netted a victorious triangular meet against Bayard and Potter-Dix, topping each opponent in two sets, and lost in four sets to Morrill in recent action on the court.
