A Sidney man was injured Tuesday when a tractor trailer hauling beets that he was driving tipped over while going through the Kimball roundabout. Robert Johnson was maneuvering the tractor trailer through the roundabout when the trailer went up on the curb and caused it to roll, said Marla Knigge, chief deputy of the Kimball County Sheriff's Office. Candidates for Kimball mayor and county commission answered questions at a forum last Thursday hosted by a Kimball High School civics class. The forum was put on by one of Jeri Ferguson’s civics classes. Congressman Adrian Smith talked about his work and answered questions about a variety of topics during a visit last week with a Kimball High School government class. Smith, a Republican from Gering, represents 75 of the state's 93 counties as part of the third congressional district. One issue that could affect many of the students soon is student loans. The Kimball City Council provided KENO funds to the Village of Bushnell and discussed the roof of the Kimball Event Center at the regularly scheduled Oct. 21 meeting. Bushnell approached the city council for KENO funds at the meeting. The village requested the funds for new traffic and street signs, which are required by federal law. County commissioners have been planning on some changes to the courthouse, and in order to move forward they accepted bids for the construction of a counter and room divider on the third floor of the courthouse. The county has been working to move the district court office from the second floor to the third floor of the county courthouse. The City of Kimball Planning Commission discussed the upcoming housing study at its Oct. 20 meeting. The meeting opened with a public hearing on whether or not to add specific conditional uses to the C-1, C-4, C-5 and C-6 zoning districts. Ronald E. Evelyn, 81, of Kimball, died at his home in Kimball on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014. Gayland “Dean” Jackson, 78, of Pierce, Colo., passed away Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, at his home. Dean was born in Dix to Elton G. Jackson and Neva Wright Jackson on March 25, 1936. He was the second of six children. In 1945, the family moved to Kimball, where dean attended school, graduating in 1954. Dean worked for several farmers in the area before joining the Army. The deadline to fill shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child is approaching. They must be filled and turned in by Nov. 24. Operation Christmas Child is a project of the Samaritans Purse organization, and provides toys, clothes and more to needy children around the world. Lori Widener said the Kimball site provided 152 shoeboxes a year ago, and hopes to donate even more this year. Turnovers haunted Banner County in its football season finale.
