Room W7 at the Kimball Jr./Sr. High School was overflowing as parents, staff members and students attended the Oct. 30 special meeting of the Kimball Public Schools Board of Education. During public comment time, about a dozen meeting attendees addressed the board with their concerns. Most of those who spoke were concerned about changes that they believed had been made to the schedule of classes. Specifically, that jazz band and show choir would no longer be held during the 27-minute intervention time in the schedule. Instead, they would be hel...
Plans are moving forward to revitalize one of downtown Kimball's busiest intersections and give a new home to growing Kimball County Transit Service. The county commissioners on Tuesday accepted the lowest construction bid to renovate the vacant commercial building at 3rd and Chestnut streets. If all goes well, county officials hope the extensive work can be completed in time for the transit service to occupy the former auto dealership by summer. Federal grant money will pay for most of the...

The Winter Sports Season has begun, at least on the Kimball Junior High level. The junior high wrestling team opened the season at the Banner County Tournament in Harrisburg this past Saturday and then hosted their own tournament this past Tuesday. I can tell you that Coach Brashear is excited for the season of both his junior high kids and with his High School squad. He has 1...
While sitting in a medical center in Fort Collins this past week while my wife was getting her eyes checked, I picked up a magazine and found myself reading a very interesting article about how the number of high school kids who are involved in athletics and sporting activities are drastically decreasing – both at the national level and in the Fort Collins area. This also got me thinking about our own situation here at the local level. Some of the figures I will give you were put together by t...
The 2019 Kimball High Football season did not turn out like it was forecast as the Longhorns won only 1 game and lost 7, due in large part to injuries to key personnel and lack of numbers. The Horns won over Southwest on the road in their second game of the season 42-0, but were outscored badly in the other 7 losses and ended up getting outscored 424 to 180 overall while averaging 22.5 points to the opponents 53 a game. As can be expected, they were dominated in almost all categories of both offense and defense. In a look back at the season,...
