These campsites were set up this past week at Oliver Reservoir, but change is coming. The South Platte Natural Resources District, with input from the Oliver Reservoir Advisory Committee, has chosen to close Oliver Reservoir Recreation Area to overnight camping Nov. 1 through March 1 for safety reasons. The monthly Kimball School Board meeting occurred on Nov. 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the county transit building, preceded by the American Civics Committee meeting. Three board members sit on the American Civics Committee, which the State of Nebraska requires. The Panhandle Unified Command on Nov. 3 reported that the Southern Panhandle had 73 cases of COVID and last week’s positivity rate was 13.6%. There were 28 active hospitalizations for this district. Carolyn Mildred Schaeffer (Temple) died peacefully at her home on October 28, 2021, in Gering, Nebraska, at the age of 88. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 12, 2021 at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball with Pastor Ann Sundberg officiating. Donnie Dan Lee passed away unexpectedly on November 1, 2021, in Tuscon, Arizona, at the age of 75. Donnie was born in Louisburg, Kansas, on December 25, 1945. He was the youngest of eight children. He lived in Lawrence, Kansas, before moving to Kimball, Nebraska, where he lived over 20 years. He was drafted into the United States Army at the age of 17. Britton and Decker Culek wrestled in Colorado Springs on Nov. 5 and 6. They competed in the King of the Mountain dual tournament on Victory Training Center club team of their uncle Kyle Schnell, a Kimball graduate and former Kimball wrestler. Britton went 4 and 6 and Decker went 1 and 6 against some tough competition. Their cousin Emma Schnell also wrestled in the duals, going 1 and 6. Kimball Lady Longhorns golfer Payton Wise has recevied another award. She's All-State. Wise, who placed third at State last month, was voted onto the 2021 Nebraska Coaches Association All-State Team. The Potter-Dix Coyotes are the No. 1 ranked team in D6, and face the No. 13 ranked Spalding Academy Shamrocks in the semifinal round of the NSAA D6 play offs on November 12 in Spalding.
