A good crowd braved the cold and wind to participate in Kimball's annual Easter Egg Hunt the morning of April 16 at Gotte Park. The New Hope Assembly of God church stuffed thousands of eggs and had prizes for everyone, including two bikes, gift cards and many other prizes. Weed season is back, well, almost. The cold and wind has prevented spraying, according to Rick Wangler, the Kimball County Weed Superintendent. He explained to the Kimball County Board of Commissioners that he is currently doing inspections and working on the equipment. The 90th Missile Wing Airmen returned a burned Humvee to base April 15. The vehicle caught fire while Airmen from the 790th Missile Security Forces Squadron were transiting Highway 71 near Kimball on April 11, closing the roadway for five days. There were no injuries in the incident. A team from the 90th Explosive Ordnance Disposal flight worked throughout the week detonating ammunition and grenades that were not able to be removed from the burning vehicle. The U.S. Air Force is holding town meetings and community engagements in Wyoming, Colorado and Nebraska to inform the local public and landowners about Ground Based Strategic Deterrence activities planned in their areas from April 18 to 27. The Air Force has started the process of determining real estate and utility easements needed for the new intercontinental ballistic missile system expected to break ground in 2026. Good morning, Harrisburg! Here we are on the final stretch of April with May flowers on the horizon. Things will be hopping at the school in May and soon out for the summer. In the mean time they have high school track on Friday the 22nd. at 9 a.m. in Pine Bluffs. On that same day they whole school will be involved in the annual clean-up day so be aware of them along the spur and here around town. The following evening is Prom 2022 and then on Tuesday, April the 25th the junior high track team will head off to Leyton for a meet beginning at 9...
Peter Francis Rutt, age 68 of Kimball, Nebraska passed away at his home in Apache Junction, Arizona March 16, 2022. He was born April 2, 1953 in New Prague, Minnesota. He was the oldest son of J. Kenneth "Kenny" and Shirley M. (Peters) Rutt. In 1954, the family moved to a farm in St. Peter, MN where they lived until 1962. Two senior girls provide leadership for the Kimball track team – Kaitlin Heeg and Tianna Stierwalt. Heeg has high exceptions for herself. "I hope to place in everything I do," she said, referring to the WTC meet on Tuesday. Her events include 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles, triple jump, and possibility the long jump. The Kimball Longhorn Trap Team is in its second year of existence with coaches Brittany Cook, Kelly Dunegan, Sean Dunegan and Jeremy Fryda leading the team of 7-11 graders. Practices have been delayed due primarily to the wind, but also the cold has made it difficult to practice. According to the coaches, everything is scored from now until the end of the season. The wind and cold weather has had an impact on all the spring sports. The Kimball High School boys golf is no exception. Coach Ben Aarestad said, "The season has been challenging with the weather. Hopefully next week we can get back to normal. We have had one meet and that was tough with the wind. Kyler has the best chance of making state."
