Five accidents were reported Monday as icy conditions enveloped the area. No serious injuries were reported from any of the accidents. Kimball County Sheriff Harry Gillway said the first accident occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. when a tractor trailer left the roadway east of Kimball. Gillway said speed was not a factor in the accident, but high winds helped push the tractor trailer, which was hauling a load of styrofoam, off the road. One man's trash is another man's treasure. However, sometimes that trash is still just trash and that means someone has to take care of it. Kimball is fortunate to have a landfill a mile away from the city. The children and their parents were greeted by warm smiles and a hot breakfast that would serve as their fuel for their morning of shopping. One of the newest members of City Council is Christy Warner. She was elected to the position in November. Warner was born and raised in Kimball and her family owns OFP Services. She did leave when she was 18 and travelled a lot while being "married to the military." She has lived in places such as Washington and Hawaii. Clark Wicks, age 89 of Sidney, passed away at the Golden Living Center in Sidney, Sunday evening, Dec. 7, 2014. Coach Wade Brashear had a very limited squad at the Banner County Wrestling Tournament Saturday due in part to sickness, injury, test requirements and other reasons but none the less there were bright spots for the Longhorns. Garrett Grubbs placed third for the second straight meet to lead the Banner County wrestling team at its own invitational tournament on Saturday. Grubbs, competing in the 152 weight class, opened with a win over Zach Grumbles of Hemingford and then defeated Destin Standley of Minatare. He lost to Javy Rojo of Holyoke in his third match. A split weekend for the Kimball boys as they won over Perkins County at home Friday night 61-52, but suffered their first loss of the season at Morrill Saturday 64-55. A tough second quarter hurt the Banner County boys basketball team in a 62-25 loss at Minatare last Thursday. The Wildcats (0-3) trailed 13-8 after the first quarter, before Minatare outscored them 17-2 in the second quarter for a 30-10 halftime lead. Minatare outscored Banner 32-15 in the second half.
