Employees of RES, who work on Kimball area windmills, recently made donations to help buy Christmas presents for local families, and RES helped the cause by matching the funds. When the Kimball County Sheriff's Office heard about what RES was doing, it sounded similar to what they were doing. The sheriff's office and RES soon partnered up and combined everything they had done. More than $1,000 was raised all together. The high winds last week not only created havoc for truckers on I-80 but also took down a landmark at the Ferguson place located 3½ miles west of Kimball. The 60-foot Spruce was planted in 1949 by Kerry Ferguson's grandfather, John H. Ferguson, shortly after he purchased the place. We regretfully announce the passing of James L Brown, who passed away at his home in Dallas, Oregon, on December 14, 2021. Jim had a difficult battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis and is finally at rest. He will be always loved and forever remembered. Jim was a successful business owner, first with 2 locations of Aurora Rentals in Aurora CO and later with Brown's Hardware in Kimball NE. Maxine L. James, 105, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2021 in Kimball. Following her wishes, cremation and a family graveside service will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held in June at the Toombs Family Reunion in York, Nebraska. Harry Stahla (Sonny) passed away on Dec. 9, 2021, in Denver, Colorado. Harry was born in Kimball, Nebraska, on Dec. 12, 1940. He was 80 years old and peacefully flew with the angels too his Savior, surrounded by his wife Rosemary, sister Barbara and many friends. He lived many years in Brighton, Colorado. Crew members from the Signs65 shop in Cheyenne, Wyo., started installing lettering Dec. 16 on the facade of the planned Kimball Ace Hardware at the old Shopko along Highway 71. The work includes electrical wiring to illuminate the red and white letters. The opening date has yet to be announced for the business, which will sell hardware, liquor and guns. In coordination with the wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, the Dix Cemetery was one of 2,500 locations participating in the National Wreath Across America Day. Christmas wreaths were placed on veterans' graves on Dec. 18 in Dix, as well as thousands of cemeteries across the country. The Coyote basketball team made a trip down to Caliche, Colo., on Saturday, and came away with a convincing 67-51win over the Buffaloes. The teams played the first quarter tight, with lots of defensive pressure and turnovers limiting the scoring. Kimball's Lady Longhorns basketball team has had some success in the early going of the 2021-22 season, and hoped it could finish with a win in the final game of the calendar year and go into the new year with a winning record. But Kimball will have to settle for a 3-3 record through December, as Friday's road matchup with undefeated Hershey did not go Kimball's way. St. Pats Tournament On Friday December 10th the Longhorn wrestling team traveled to North Platte St. Pats for an 8 team round robin tournament. They scored 115.0 points and tied Brady for 3rd overall. The tournament was won by Maxwell with 193 points. All 5 varsity wrestlers placed in the top 3.
