    Potter-Dix's Lady Coyote Volleyball team has had success so far in the season, but went through a difficult week, losing four of five matches, with the last two losses coming at a home tournament on Saturday.     Potter-Dix’s Lady Coyote Volleyball team evened their record to 5-and-5 during Homecoming Week with a victory against the Creek Valley Lady Storm at Potter Thursday night.     Potter-Dix’s Lady Coyote volleyball team had a busy week, traveling to Kimball for a Triangular on Thursday, then traveling for a Quadrangular at Bridgeport on Saturday. On Thursday, the Lady Coyotes lost their first match to a sharp Mitchell team 2-to-0, but then rebounded and defeated Kimball 2-to-1.     Potter-Dix’s Coyote football team improved to 2-0 on the young season with an impressive 61-32 road win against the Sioux County Warriors. Sioux County started the game with a good drive highlighted by two fourth down conversions and grabbed an early six point lead.     Monday, July 27 the Potter-Dix School Board approved the proposed reopening plan in a 6-0 vote. School will start Aug. 19 with an 11:30 a.m. dismissal. The proposal included information about pre-testing and assessing students to determine if skills are lacking and if there is a need for remedial instruction.     From Friday to Monday, 13 more cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in the Panhandle. Kimball County has one case and Scotts Bluff and Box Butte counties share the remaining 12. A male in his 50s is the latest Kimball County case and his exposure type is reported as community spread.     Herb Stevens has been the Potter fire chief for 27 years, but he said, "This is one that you remember." He was talking about a huge bale fire south of Potter, just two miles from the Colorado state line.     Graduation exercises were held for the Potter-Dix seniors on Saturday, May 30, on Combs Field. The 30 minute COVID-19 compliant ceremony included the presentation of scholarships and shared addresses from salutatorian Noah Rabin and valedictorian Virginia Herboldsheimer.     The United States has joined the unfortunate group of countries throughout the world battling the coronavirus pandemic. The effects are being felt here in the Panhandle. According to Panhandle Public Health, six individuals were tested for the virus and their tests came back negative. Those numbers, reported over the weekend, are sure to grow.     Potter-Dix and Banner County FFA members were among those attending the recent FFA district meet in Kimball. More than 320 FFA students attended. Students visited from schools across the region. Meanwhile, this past week, the COVID-19 pandemic impacted the Kimball FFA as it has so many others locally – forcing postponement of the Kimball FFA Alumni and Supporters dinner and article auction and labor auction.     Romona Marcella (Brauer) Shaw, age 91, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2020 in Sidney, NE. Romona was born on September 23, 1928 to Richard and Frieda (Kragel) Brauer and graduated from Sidney High School in 1945. On May 3, 1949, Romona married Clinton Shaw and the couple farmed for several years in the Potter-Dix area. Romona was active in the Jolly Neighbors Club and in 4-H, where she was a leader.
