On August 10, 2024, Dean Arthur Henrickson, passed away at Linden Court in North Platte. He was born the only son of four children to Arthur and Edna (Deavers) Henrickson in Kimball, NE, on July 31, 1948. In 1966, Dean graduated from Kimball County High School and went on to pursue and earn his Bachelor's in Geological Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO. The Kimball Longhorn football team is making a splash this season. During football camp in early August, the team trained in the Kimball City Pool for a different type of workout. The Kimball-Banner Fair has started with a variety of activities completed. Competitions that are in the record books include archery, clothing, fashion revue, static and the dog show. Archery competition was completed on Wednesday, with a group of high quality shooters. In the Unsighted division, Ember White took Junior Grand Champion and Braun Hottell was Reserve. The 2024-25 softball season will be exciting for Kimball High School freshman JaLeigh Bohac. After the Kimball School Board negotiated a cooperative arrangement with Gering Public Schools, JaLeigh will begin her high school softball career with Gering High School. Nebraska high school state steer wrestling champion Wyatt Reichenberg of Banner County added an eight-place world finish to his record at this month's National High School Rodeo finals in Rock Springs, Wyoming. There were 13 performances total for Nationals. Six performances made up go-arounds 1 and 2 and then the final performance was the short-go. The Kimball County Commissioners anticipated opening bids at their July 16 meeting to purchase the former Kimball Health Services hospital at 505 South Burg Street, but no bids were submitted. The building was shown to two different parties, but neither one made an offer, officials said. The Kimball City Council voted unanimously to add a second K-9 unit to the Kimball Police Department at the council meeting on Tuesday, July 2. The unit’s dog, a Belgian Malinois named Trudy, will cost $7,000, significantly less than the going rate of $25,000, Police Chief Jose Ruiz said. Trudy will be trained along with the city’s other police dog, Lucy, at Ragnar Defense in Casper, Wyoming. Heaven celebrated as they welcomed Gene Edward Grossnicklaus home. On June 26, 2024, surrounded by his children in his home, Gene Edward Grossnicklaus passed away from this world after a courageous battle with cancer. Gene Edward Grossnicklaus was born on October 15, 1950, the third of eight children born to Raymond and Leona Grossnicklaus in Shelby, Nebraska.
