Wheat harvest here in Banner County has looked pretty good, and in Scotts Bluff County, and Kimball, it has looked good at least in places.   • With Temps In The 90s, Wheat Harvest Gets Going

    Wheat harvest has begun in and around the Kimball area. The recent days of 90-plus degree weather "gets things dried out," according to Frenchman Valley Coop's Hope Hinton. On Monday, cutting is happening "all over" north of Potter, north and south of Kimball, and south of Dix, she said.     At the Kimball City Council meeting on July 18, City Administrator Annette Brower addressed key issues regarding the missile project. Brower said the Pioneer Camp will be in place in 2024 and the Housing Hub for hundreds of project workers at a time will be built and operational in 2025.     Chief Jose Ruiz of the Kimball Police Department reported at the Kimball City Council on meeting a lengthy list of happenings. During the council meeting, the department also added two more officers to the ranks. New Kimball policemen include Sgt. Jose Barboza and Officer Colton McKenzie.     Kimball County Transit Service celebrated its expanded service on July 12 with an open house and ribbon cutting. Officials from the Nebraska Department of Transportation and Mobility Management were on hand to celebrate, along with local and regional officials.     Teresa Gonzalez of Kimball is facing three felony charges – including domestic first degree assault, possession of a controlled substance, and terroristic threats – and two misdemeanor charges from an incident on July 8 at the First Interstate Inn.   • Woman Dies In Accident On County Road 52

    At approximately 3:15 p.m. Monday, Nebraska State Patrol troopers received a report of a single-vehicle crash approximately four miles west of Highway 71 on County Road 52 in Kimball County, troopers told the Observer on Tuesday. Upon arrival, troopers located a Ford Explorer on its roof. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Erin Dixon, 51, of Deer Trail, Colorado, was pronounced deceased at the scene.   • Dix Road Becoming A Fixed Road

    In a few weeks, County Road 59 South, otherwise known as the Dix road, will receive two coats of chip seal. At the present time, the tubes or culverts have been installed, and there are about 3½ miles left to patch before the chip seal project begins. The badly needed repairs will help improve the life of the blacktop and hopefully repair potholes.     Eileen M. Dudney's yard, home and retaining wall at 501 S. Washington received Yard of the Week. For some time, Eileen wanted to do something to her retaining wall. She considered a religious painting but settled on a Huskers theme. Carlos De La Cruz from Scottsbluff did the artwork for Eileen.     Speculation on the location of the Northrup Grumman Work-Force-Hub site continues in the Kimball community. Northrup Grumman has yet to release the location, but representative Matt Dillow detailed a timeline at a June 28 community meeting in Kimball and gave an update on the Sentinel missile project. Jim Pillen and the Nebraska Department of Education recognized a select number of students from across Nebraska – one from none other than Kimball – who earned the top score of 36 on the American College Testing (ACT) exam.     On Wednesday, June 28, a massive tornado touched down 12 miles south of Kimball near the home of Justin and Hilary Cook. Justin took this photo outside their back door, then rushed back into the basement for cover.
