  • Two Jailed Here After I-80 Drug Bust

    Nebraska State Patrol troopers arrested two men after locating more than 100 pounds of suspected marijuana during a traffic stop on Interstate 80 in Kimball County, the patrol said. The incident report states that at approximately 1:25 p.m. March 2, a trooper performed a traffic stop on an eastbound Chrysler 300 for speeding on I-80 near mile marker 18.   • Hearing March 21 For County Road Plans

    The public hearing for the Kimball County's One- and Six-Year Plan, Highway or Street Improvement Project, is scheduled for March 21 to "hear support, opposition, criticism, suggestions, or observation" on the proposed plan. The One Year Plan has four projects – with the largest located on the asphalt road south of Dix and County Road 24.     A Collective Gathering in Potter is celebrating 19 years in business and the folks there are excited to begin their 20th year. The unique business venture opened April 1, 2004.   • Half-Cent Sales Tax Going To A Vote

    A special election will be held in June for voters to decide on a ½ cent infrastructure sale tax. Kimball City Council members approved in a 3-0 vote to put the ½ cent sales tax on the ballot.     The Nebraska Homestead Exemption Applications are available from February 1, 2020 to June 30. 2023 in the Kimball County Assessor’s office.     High West Energy confirmed that it will be using a drone for inspection purposes in Kimball County in the next few weeks. A pilot on the ground uses drones to inspect lines, insulators, poles, wire breaks and insulator wraps.     Kimball Mayor John Morrison explained his absence from Kimball in a recent email. On Nov. 9, John Morrison was elected the new mayor of Kimball.     At the February Kimball School Board meeting, the board approved the calendar changes due to early dismissals and snow days. From March 1 to the end of school, Wednesdays will now be a full day of school with no early dismissal for professional development. This calendar change will give back about 30 hours of classroom time. Superintendent Trevor Anderson explained that in the fall, Kimball Schools had four early dismissals due to heat.     The public hearing for the 1/6 Year Road Plan for Kimball County road department was set at the Kimball County Commissioners meeting on Thursday, Feb. 21.     As a junior in high school at Lincoln East, Chad Wise was offered a full-ride scholarship to play golf at the University of Nebraska. On his way to the signing at the university, Wise was involved in a 34-car pile-up on 70th Street in Lincoln. Wise received injuries to his back and left knee. After his recovery, Wise played his senior year at Lincoln East but could not play collegiate golf after the car accident.
