The Kimball Longhorns basketball team is showing some promise with an 8-4 record and two sweet victories of late over rivals Potter-Dix and Bridgeport. The first game after the Christmas break for the Lady Longhorns was a trip to South Platte on Tuesday, January 1. Kimball started out strong and stuck with the hosts, staying within 10 points for the first three quarters, but could not overcome them in the fourth. Coach Jaclyn Burks said "the girls hustled, but the team has been battling the flu and sickness and we ran out of gas in the last quarter and put ourselves in foul trouble as well, so that did not help our efforts." Burks was pleased...
The Coyote basketball teams opened 2024 with a challenging task, games against rivals Bayard and South Platte. The boys team was able to grab wins in both contests, while the Lady Coyotes struggled with losses in their first contests of the new year. The Lady Coyotes opened on Friday night against a very strong Bayard team, and it was quickly apparent that the Lady Coyotes did not have the firepower to keep up with the Lady Tigers. The Bayard girls opened a big lead early and cruised all night, ending the game with a 59-9 victory....
Longhorns basketball legend Mike Daum, who turned 28 on Oct. 30, is still moving up. Daum has joined the high-level Anadolu Efes of the Turkish Basketball Super League and the EuroLeague after the Bertram Derthona team in Italy released him from his contract so he could try to further his career. This follows the Dauminator's fine performance in the 2023 NBA Summer League with the Sacramento Kings. "It was not easy to make this decision," Bertram Derthona president Marco Picchi said on the team...
The Longhorns boys basketball tram is sitting at 4-2 during its winter break after a 54-46 loss at Hershey. Next up for Kimball High basketball is South Platte, which comes to K-Town on Jan. 3. JV play starts at 4 p.m. Friday's game vs. Hershey was a very back and forth game all night. We discussed and executed a new offense well the day before in practice and were very hopeful that we would be able to continue that execution come game time. The start of the game went very well as we were able...
Potter-Dix’s basketball teams each went 1-1 over the past week, with both teams dropping their contests against Caliche, and then both winning their games against Banner County. On December 14, the Caliche Buffalo teams came up from Colorado, and the action started with the girls game. The Lady Buffs were tough on defense, allowing very few good looks for the Lady Coyotes to start off the game. After Caliche built a 15-4 lead in the first quarter, Potter-Dix roared back in the second quarter, putting up 13 points in the period. But the Lady C...
The Longhorns boys basketball team travels to Hershey on Friday, Dec. 15, with a 4-1 record to close out the December portion of their schedule. Here's a look at their previous three games in which they went 2-1. Kimball 77, Garden County 49 This was a great team victory in front of our hometown supporters. They got to see our Lady Longhorns take home a victory as well, which made it even better for our loud hometown fans. As far as our game goes, we had 5 players reach double digits in scoring...
The experience and maturity of the Kimball girls was the difference between Kimball and Garden County. Garden County's young team was overpowered by Kimball's experience and Kimball won, 51-30. Coach Jaclyn Burks was pleased with their execution and the press. Facing Garden County, Addy Olson had 19, Julia Winstrom playing a solid post position had 12, Grace Anderson added 8, sophomore Grace Moore was all over the court and had seven. Finishing out the scoring were Joey Perry with 3 and Rachel...
Potter-Dix's Coyote basketball teams continued their start of the season, matching up against Creek Valley on December 8 and Paxton on December 9. The Creek Valley teams traveled to Potter on December 8, and the girls started first with their game. Potter-Dix opened a 10-7 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Lady Storm did a great job on defense in the second quarter, limiting the Lady Coyotes to just three points in the frame. Trailing 19-13 at the half, the Lady Coyotes responded...

Potter-Dix’s Coyote basketball teams started their seasons with losses and look to turn things around quickly before they fall too far in the standings. With an opening matchup on the road against a tough Morrill team, the Lady Coyotes were overmatched and quickly fell behind. The Lady Lions’ defense was too strong for the Lady Coyotes to mount a consistent attack, while the Morrill girls had no trouble setting their offense and scoring. The game was pretty much decided before the end of the first half, and the Lady Lions breezed to a 61-...

The Potter-Dix Coyotes football season is over. The perennial post-season team in recent times ended the season at 9-1 with a crushing playoff loss to visiting Parkview Christian on Friday, Nov. 3. The scored was 51-0, a most uncommon outcome for the Coyotes – unless they're on the other side of this kind of point total. It marked the second straight year that P-D has lost in the quarterfinals. The defeat also ended a 10-game streak home win streak. But there was a bright spot. His name is D...

Paxton, 18-10, had the top seed in the D1-12 subdistrict. Kimball was in the number 4 spot with a 3-25 record. Paxton played Sutherland on Tuesday for the winner of the sub-district tournament bracket and the...
