Kimball’s football program has shifted into 2024 mode after its season ending game last Friday at Bayard. The Longhorns put up a hefty 40 points, but Bayard scored 76 and the visiting Horns closed their season with a fourth-place 1-3 record in D1 District 11 and 2-6 overall. OSHKOSH – Potter-Dix’s Coyote football team remained unbeaten with a 36-28 victory over Garden County in Oshkosh, spoiling the Eagles homecoming celebration and showing they’re still one of the best teams in D6 football. Garden County opened strong and took an early lead, but the Coyotes were able to take a lead in the third quarter and held off the Eagles for the win. The Kimball cross county season came to an end at districts Wednesday of last week, but not without a strong finish. Kimball placed fourth in districts with 76 points. Seventeen teams competed. Due to the colder weather, the event was moved from Thursday to Wednesday at Pheasant Run Golf Course, Perkins County. Longhorn volleyball is on the path to sub-districts scheduled for Monday, Oct. 23, but a couple of more matches will be up for grabs before district play. The last home game for the five seniors was Tuesday against Perkins County and Thursday they will play a triangular at Minatare, along with Hemingford. POTTER – Potter-Dix’s Coyote Football team stayed unbeaten with another big win over Creek Valley, 72-0. The winless Storm had no chance against the high-powered Coyote offense, and the game was effectively over when the Coyotes put up 40 unanswered points in the first quarter. The Kimball boys cross country team took the title at the Western Trails Conference meet at the Four Winds Golf Course on Monday. Braxton Miller placed fifth, Braylon Miller was eighth and Trey Miller was 11th. Central Banner 4-H Club members (and brothers) Isaac Olsen (16), Luke Olsen (12), and Gabe Olsen (9) competed at the 2023 State 4-H Outdoor Archery Competition in Grand Island on Sept. 16 and 17. Potter-Dix’s Lady Coyote volleyball team has been struggling against the better teams they face while beating the lesser teams, and gaining experience the whole time with their young squad. A month remains of the regular 2023 volleyball season for the Kimball team that on Monday evening enjoyed a taste of victory as the Kimball JV won over the Banner County varsity in a close 3-2 match. It was great way to open homecoming week. Kimball has five home games between now and the end of the season. On Tuesday, Kimball played against Hershey. The Kimball Invitational Cross County meet had teams from across the region, including the Panhandle and Wyoming. The meet was held on a beautiful day, Friday, Sept. 8, at the Four Winds Golf Course. The Kimball Longhorns football team had a reason to celebrate Friday night, at the expense of the Warrior team from Leyton.
