The Kimball Invitational Cross County meet had teams from across the region, including the Panhandle and Wyoming. The meet was held on a beautiful day, Friday, Sept. 8, at the Four Winds Golf Course. The Kimball Longhorns football team had a reason to celebrate Friday night, at the expense of the Warrior team from Leyton. It was the Longhorns first home win since the end of September 2018, which gave the rebuilding program a greatly needed shot in the arm. The Horns are 1-1 on the 2023 season. CRAWFORD – Potter-Dix's Coyote football team continued its strong start to the 2023 season, breezing past the Crawford Rams on the road Friday, September 1, by a final score of 69-31. The Kimball volleyball team has a busy schedule coming up as its first home game of the season is not until Sept. 18 against Banner County. Meanwhile, on Tuesday they will be playing Garden County Bridgeport and Thursday in Mitchell. On Sept. 14, Kimball plays in Sutherland. The Longhorn girls golf team is well into the season with the Kimball Invite their third meet of the season. On Wednesday this week, the girls played at Creek Valley and on Sept. 7 they head to Mitchell. In just three meets the scores are dropping rapidly. DALTON--There are questions about the Potter-Dix Coyotes after the graduation of star player Luke Kasten, but none of them were answered Friday night as the Coyotes again breezed through the Minatare Indians, 73-0 at Combs Field. The Antelope Stampede Bicycle Race continues to grow with 49 participants from Colorado and Nebraska this year. This is the third year for the local event organized by Jon and Anna-Lisa Heidemann. The 1st annual Red and White Classic Golf Tournament at the Four Winds Golf Course was a success, according to Kimball Jr/Sr High Activities Director Darrell Howitt. Seven members of the Dead Eye Shooters 4-H Club participated in the 2023 Daisy National BB Gun Tournament in Rogers, Arkansas July 6-10. The high school rodeo season will start again for Kimball's bull rider Cody Brinkman in two weeks at Bassett, Nebraska. Cody spent last week in Gillette, Wyoming, at the National High School Finals Rodeo. He rode bulls on Monday and Friday but got "bucked off" both times. The Kimball Women’s Golf Association Wednesday League is winding down its season. The nine-hole tournament was Wednesday, followed by three more weeks of league play, the Horse Race and Battle of Sexes. On Friday, the Kimball trap team traveled to Mason, Michigan, to shoot at Nationals. The five-member squad shot 419; each individual had two sessions with 50 shots each session. Justin Klosterman had a 74, Nolan Cook with an 81, Cameron McGinnis had a 85, Cainin Sours with a 90, and James McGinnis shot 89.
