On Friday, the Kimball trap team traveled to Mason, Michigan, to shoot at Nationals. The five-member squad shot 419; each individual had two sessions with 50 shots each session. Justin Klosterman had a 74, Nolan Cook with an 81, Cameron McGinnis had a 85, Cainin Sours with a 90, and James McGinnis shot 89. According to Brittany Cook, the team encountered some trouble as Klosterman's gun broke at the beginning of the second session, but another team let him borrow one of their guns....
JaLeigh Bohac is one of the girls of summer – and spring and fall – as she played softball for the Scottsbluff traveling team, the Valley Aces. Their season begins in April and continues through summer and fall. Mike Daum finished the NBA Summer League playing well enough to stay in the conversation for making a regular season NBA roster with the Sacramento Kings, his summer team, or another franchise that liked what it saw in the Dauminator. On July 11, Daum scored 22 points for the Kings against the Chicago Bulls. He scored on 5 of 9 three-point shots and brought in seven rebounds. For the last four years, the Panhandle area sports scene has been dominated by the best athlete in the region, Luke Kasten of Potter. The Potter-Dix 2023 graduate burst on to the scene four years ago as a freshman, leading the Potter-Dix Coyote 6-Man football team to a resurgence that in following years saw undefeated seasons and chances to play for State Championships. The 14th annual Vince's golf tournament at the Four Winds course ran into some weather on Saturday, and six holes had to be played on Sunday along with the regular 18 holes. The Dauminator is back in the states playing ball. The Sacramento Kings signed the Kimball basketball legend to their roster for the 2023 NBA Summer League. The 6-9 Daum, also a double-digit scorer with Derthona Basket in the Italian LBA league, plays center with the Kings and scored 6 points in the team’s 80-70 loss Monday to the Los Angeles Clippers in Las Vegas. But with the national popularity of the sport only one team and five individuals from Kimball were able to get registered. The Four Winds Women’s Golf League began its season on May 31 with 11 teams. The first-week winners were Shellon Anderson with 16 putts, Pattie Klinginsmith with a low gross of 42, and Jan Bashaw’s low net of 33. There were no flag prizes. Pattie Klinginsmith retook low gross in Week 2 with a 43, and Charlotta Young had low net with a 33. Charlotta Young had a hole out on #16 and had only 13 putts for the nine holes. Edward Tamsett, Four Winds Golf Course's new golf pro, arrived in Kimball about three weeks ago from Australia. About three or four days ago, he was joined by his wife, Wilkiria. The United States is familiar to Tamsett; he attended college at Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas, on a golf scholarship. The area’s Class D schools sent their NSAA State Meet qualifiers to Omaha for competition on Friday and Saturday, and that included a set of qualifiers from Potter-Dix. Kimball's Kyler Lusche shot an 85 on Tuesday, the first day of the NSAA State Golf Tournament at Elks Country Club in Columbus. Lusche teed off on number 1 at 9:30 a.m. Central Time and ended up being tops in his foursome. The individuals Lusche was paired with shot 90, 93 and 99. On Monday, Kyler Lusche placed ninth at the C5 district golf tournament in Kimball on May 15 at the Four Winds Golf Course. After missing most of the season with a back injury, Lusche shot a 39/42 for an 81 to earn a trip to the state meet in Columbus on May 23 and 24.
