Kimball Junior High had a great track season with about 60 kids out for the season. On Saturday, the season ended with the Nebraska Championship Meet in Gothenburg. Mitchell's Cael Peters won the Kimball Invite on Thursday with a solid game of 35/35=70 at Four Winds Golf Course. Jace Nelson from Gordon-Rushville shot a 35/36 for a 71 to take second. Kimball High's girls and boys track and field teams travel to the Cheyenne County meet Friday following their performance at the SPVA conference meet that included a number of personal records and medals. The Longhorn golfers have a busy couple of weeks ahead of them. Thursday, the Longhorns will host the Kimball Invite with 12-15 teams making the trip. Then on May 9 the team will travel to Bayard and follow that up at the Leyton Invite in Sidney on May 11, and districts on May 15. Potter-Dix’s Coyote Track and Field teams traveled to Leyton High School on Saturday for the MAC High School Meet, and the girls’ squad placed third out of eight teams with 58 points, and the boys’ squad finished fourth out of seven teams with 95 points. Potter-Dix’s Trap Shooting Club as been in full swing since March, with their Friday competitions improving the scores of their members every week. Competing in the U.S.A. Karsyn Chesley will be traveling to Perry, Georgia in June to compete in Light rifle shooting at the National Junior High Rodeo. The shooting finals are held in conjunction with the National Junior High Rodeo competition. Kimball’s trap shooting team is on target for another strong season. The Longhorns next host Pine Bluffs at 1 p.m. this Sunday, April 30. Everyone is invited to come out and watch. Potter-Dix's Coyote Track and Field teams traveled across the border into Wyoming to compete at the Kendra Roeder Invitational at Pine Bluffs High School. Both teams finished seventh in fields of 11 teams, and held their own against some of the toughest competition in the Panhandle and eastern Wyoming area. Creek Valley High School hosted the annual Tri-State Meet, and area schools all competed on a sunny day with a warm breeze. Spectators and competitors that did not liberally apply sunscreen found that they had a good sunburn by the beginning of the afternoon. The competition was dominated by the St. Patrick’s team out of North Platte, with the girls squad taking first place with 128 points and the boys squad also taking first with 131.5 points. On Tuesday, April 11, Mitchell High School hosted the Mitchell Invitational at Scenic Knolls Golf Course. The challenging course and a hot day got the best of most of the area school’s golfers, and the Sidney team managed a fifth place finish with a 347, edged out for fourth by one stroke by Alliance with a 346. Mark Anderson and his family hit the Four Winds Golf Course on opening weekend. Although the wind blew most of the day Sunday, the Anderson family teed off on beautiful Sunday evening with little wind. The annual Booster Club Athletic Banquet to celebrate the 2022-23 sports season will begin at 5:30 p.m. May 2 at the Kimball Jr/Sr High School Student Center. Edward Tamsett, an Australian native and a member of the Australian PGA, has signed a contract with the Four Winds Park and Recreation Executive Board to be the next golf pro at Four Winds Golf Course. Tamsett is in the process of obtaining the necessary paperwork to live in the United States and return to Kimball. Tamsett told the Observer that he is 35 years old and was been the head golf professional at Eden Gardens Country Club for the last four years.
