The Kimball Longhorn Wrestling Team brought three state qualifiers to the NSAA State Wrestling Tournament Thursday through Saturday in Omaha. Hemingford – Friday’s game in Hemingford was one of those games that in a way you want to just forget about and move on from but we all know you can learn some of your greatest lessons from your most difficult defeats. It was the first game without leading scorer Brandon Paxton on the floor and we started the game as though we were lost without his services. The Kimball Longhorns girls basketball team hosted their final home game of the season last Tuesday against the Pine Bluffs Hornets. The Longhorns second half shooting drought led the Hornets to victory with a final score of 46-34. The team holds a record of 1-18 and is currently 0-3 in district play. Again mother nature has impacted the Longhorn Wrestling schedule. The Longhorns were supposed to travel across the state to compete in Northeast Nebraska at the Plainview Invite. The Longhorns travelled to Sutherland for a rematch with the Sailors on Thursday. The Horns had played Sutherland in the SPVA Tournament and downed the 0-9 Sailors, 72-50. After a win against Chappell, the Sailors are now 1-11 on the season. But on Thursday, at Sutherland, Kimball once again handily beat Sutherland, 68-43. Potter-Dix’s Coyote Boys Basketball team rebounded from a loss against rival Leyton in the MAC Tournament finals on January 21 with two big wins over Prairie and Caliche over the past week. The wins push the Coyotes’ record to 11-3, and position them well for the final stretch of games in the regular season. The injury bug has hit the Kimball Longhorn Wrestling team this week. Derek Kauffman's season was ended in the beginning of the week with another shoulder injury that will result in season ending shoulder surgery. He finished the year with a 10-8 record at 170.
