Wausa. Taylor Holz was named

Students practicing sports
in the former school building
shouldn’t have to worry about a
lack of warmth this winter. A recent
fundraiser by the Plains Historical
Society netted $5,200 to
pay for radiant heaters according
to Society President Terri Lukassen.
The Society sold chances for
a laptop computer or cash, “We
took in enough to pay for the radiant
heaters, and some money is
left over to pay the heating bills,”
Lukassen said. The Tuesday night
volleyball team voluntarily installed
the heaters.
Winners of the grand prize
were Mike and Sherry Winstrom.
Six second-place winners
were awarded with either
a $100 saving bond or $50 in
cash. the six winners are: Mary
Biggs, GRI, Natosha Frye, LaValia
Teasley, Colby Lukassen, and
Preston and Jaime Wiggam.
The Board of Directors for
the Plains Historical Society has
a public meeting every third
Thursday, and the next meeting
is Dec. 19, 7 p.m. at the Superintendent’s

Philip C. Larsen, 24, of Bushnell
was arraigned Monday in Kimball
county court on charges of willful
reckless driving and destruction
of property.
A preliminary hearing for
Larsen was scheduled for Dec.
21 and a $1,000 cash bond set.
He paid the bond and has been
released.
Larsen had been jailed early
Sunday morning after being arrested
for willful reckless driving.
The destruction of property
charge stemmed from damages
caused to the jail and to
the county treasurer’s office by
water running in Larsen’s cell.
Water had soaked through
the floor of the jail located on
the 3d floor of the courthouse
and through the ceiling of the
county treasurer’s office on the
2d floor, where ceiling plaster
was pealed and flooring was
damaged. When discovered,
water was an inch or 2 deep
in the treasurer’s office, running
into the commissioner’s
room and out into the hall. Inside
parts of a posting machine
were rusted.
No estimate of dollar damage
was available.

The world’s meanest dog killer
was at it again in Kimball this
week, Chief of Police Burt Carter
reported. Another dog was a victim
of the sadistic dog-hater.
The method used to kill dogs
is to bait a large fish hook with a
piece of meat, then tie the hook
with a strong cord to a post.
When the dog swallows the meat,
the hook catches in its stomach
or throat. When the dog tries to
get away, it is torn to pieces internally.
Ten days ago Bob Sandridge
had a registered English setter
killed in this manner. It was found
dead in the street near their home,
the hook still in its throat. Last
week he offered a $100 reward
for information leading to the
arrest and conviction of anyone
using baited hooks to kill dogs.
His children were heartbroken
over the loss of their dog,
but at least they were spared
the sight of its horrible death.
The dog killed this week was
also found in the east part of
the city. City authorities said
they would press charges to
the fullest extent possible if the
culprit is found.

As an indication of the worth
of the “movie” in teaching agriculture,
attention is direced to
the shows which have been held
in the various rural sections of
Chickasaw county, Iowa, recently
by the farm bureau. More than
1,000 attended these meetings.
The American Farm Bureau federation
has a library of motion
