Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
The Potter-Dix Coyotes couldn’t keep up with the Paxton Tigers in their December 8 game.
The Tigers quickly took the lead in the first half of the game, scoring their first 4 points before Trevor Harms was able to put Potter-Dix on the board off a pass from Kyle Gorsuch. The Coyotes tried to stop the Tigers offense with a full court press, but it had little effect.
Yet the Coyotes were able to build a small comeback at the end of the first quarter when Gorsuch hit a three pointer pulling the Coyotes within six points. However, the Tigers quickly widened their lead ending the quarter with 17 points in front. The rest of the half didn’t work out well for the Coyotes with the Paxton defense holding them to 13 points while scoring 52 points of their own in the first half overall.
“We ran with the number two team in the state for a little bit, and then they showed us that they were the number two team in the state. They came out and ran their floor well, took care of the ball. They played good,” Luke Johnson said.
The second half of the game didn’t turn out any differently for the Coyotes with Paxton coming out on top with a 90-34 victory. However, the game wasn’t a complete loss as it offered an opportunity for a wider variety of Potter-Dix players to get in the game, according to Potter-Dix Head Coach Chad Miller.
“You have you have your spurts and you have your let-downs. It’s a learning experience. We got some extra guys in their once it kind of got out of hand and got them some experience playing a tough team,” Miller said.
The loss came a day after Potter-Dix fell to Creek Valley, 47-32.
Bryant Knigge paced the offence in that game with 10 points.
