Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Bushnell Bits

A lot of business was covered at last week’s village board meeting. Cody, Billy, and Karl took the oath of office for the positions they were re-elected to on the board. Tim was re-elected as chairman of the board. Shirley was reappointed as clerk/treasurer. Tim, Verne, and Karl were reappointed to the health board.

The board voted in the updates to the Nebraska Basic Ordinance Code (this is available at the office for anyone who would like to read it). They also approved the 2013 emergency management plan for the water system and passed a resolution to approve the Kimball County local emergency operations plan (LEOP).

The board opted to go with a blanket-coverage insurance this year because of more flexibility in the plan.

The village plans to sell the metal roofing material that was recently removed from the new shop building. Sealed bids will be accepted. Please talk to Shirley at the office for more information.

The health board has condemned a grain bin in town for health and safety reasons and can now take further action on getting it torn down.

The quarter store in Kimball will be open through Christmas Eve. This is a great place for children to find gifts for their parents and siblings because they can pick out and purchase items on their own, allowing them to feel more involved in the process.

Speaking of Christmas shopping, the two stores in Bushnell will be open the day before Christmas Eve for those last-minute purchases…

Johnsons Surplus will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, December 23.

The bookstore will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, December 23. We’ll have a three foot sub from Subway, hot chocolate, coffee, and Christmas cookies for you to enjoy while you shop, and 10 percent off your total order. Free gift wrapping available.

Hope you all have a Merry Christmas!

Next week’s lunch specials: Tuesday–CLOSED (Merry Christmas!), Wednesday–CLOSED, Thursday–reubens, Friday–grilled cheese and tomato soup, Saturday–chicken and rice soup.
