Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Congratulations to Kimball High School’s December Student of the Month, Colton Snyder.
Snyder is very active in school as well as in his community. FFA has been an important part of his high school career. He has competed in district and state events including Range Judging, Ag Sales and Parliamentary Procedure. He received the Star Chapter Farmer award and is currently serving as Chapter Treasure. Snyder was a member of STAND, where he has served as Parliamentarian and President. He is in band, pep band, jazz band and he is a member of the speech team.
He has been on the honor roll all four years of high school, maintaining a 3.7 GPA, and is a member of National Honor Society. He has attended several academic contests at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, Colorado State University and Chadron State College.
Outside of school Snyder is a member of the Boy Scouts. He has served as the Senior Patrol Leader and has achieved the rank of Star Scout. He is a nine year member of 4-H and is a member of the Kimball Dead Eyes 4-H Shooting Sports Club where he has been on state winning teams and attended the Daisy National BB Gun Competition. Snyder also actively volunteers for the Kimball Historical Society and is a member of his church youth group.
The greatest volunteer experience he has had so far led him to his choice of career to pursue. Snyder served as a volunteer for the Nebraska Roads Department Paleontologist. He assisted in the recovery of several important fossils from the road bed for the HWY 71 Bypass. So Snyder plans to attend Chadron State College and to pursue a career as a Paleontologist.
He will receive a $25 gift certificate from the Lions Club and is now eligible for a $500 Lions Club Student of the Month Scholarship to be presented yearly to one of the “making a difference” winners.
